    ... Africa in WW2. This spot was also at the foot of the hills that are the Joshua Tree NP. I had seen the Joshua Tree on TV shows and movies, I wasn't expecting hills. I'll be exploring that NP later, on my return to Cali. I continue on my leg, the mountains and hills varied in shape and colour with every new one I passed, the entire landscape was constantly varying.     ... ladies, lamb "racing" for the little kids, and they even had a motocross event for the teens going around the barrels. Also the calf roping events. All in all it was a lot of fun; and, of course, it's fun for me to take the pictures.

    ... Coast gal has never seen a date grow from anything)...I thought they grew on regular trees. In fact, as we were coming out I see these stands of tall palms and I'm thinking, this must be where they grow the palms and then sell them to the hotels, or homes...uh, no, apparently not! See, you are never too old to learn something!! They use bucket trucks that have a whole in the middle and when they come up to the tree they bucket separates and goes around ...

    ... contact with the tower at Yuma Marine Air Station and Yuma Air Port for VFR flight following so that the tower knows that a balloon is drifting around the end of the airport about 3-4 miles out... As we drift I notice a low flying helicopter heading towards the hospital and their pad...
