    ... We took the 36 mile scenic loop drive through the south unit of the park, stopping along the way to hike some of the shorter trails. Though the landscape appears inhospitable and barren, we saw a variety of shrubs, grasses, and wild flowers as well as horses, buffalo, and prairie dogs.
