... using their carts far too much, which cause noise and you need to make way for them on the paths. My favourite animals were the elephant nosed shrew, the black and white animal, the prairie dogs and the monkey that had an old man face. The baby orang-utan was also very cute. Some of the ways the animals were displayed was awesome. You would walk along paths and the animals were right there in what looked like natural habitat. Often there were no bars. Frustratingly there were ...

... all trip we were grabbing for both pants and jerseys before we went out though. Omaha appears to be a city that overseas tourists generally don't come to. Both the rental car guy and the hotel receptionist questioned why we had come to Omaha, like they were surprised. In the case of the hotel I can understand because they appear to be used by a lot of long distance drivers (eg truckies). It's a fairly large and spread out city ...

While in Iowa, why not visit the Herbert Hoover Presidential Library we said to ourselves and we're glad we did. This is my fifth presidential library and I always enjoy learning about these men. President Hoover lead a pretty impressive life before he entered politics. This library complex includes his ancestral home...a 2 room simple home for 5 people...a Quaker meetinghouse, a one room schoolhouse and his burial site. The library itself is pretty large and includes ...

... ups and a laundry/bathroom, but it would do. We quickly set up while eyeballing the dark clouds that literally surrounded us. I kept looking at The Weather Channel app's radar, and it was showing a big storm brewing. As we settled in, we realized that it definitely looked worse than it was, and we barely received any rain. The next morning we woke up to more of the same gloomy doomy skies. We did a couple of loads of laundry ...

        Papillion Firefighters Rock

Oct. 13: Papillion firefighters were fun to be with and do such an important job.

Nov. 21: Heartwarming, great turnout on an icy, cold evening at the Liberty Social Hall. Mayors Black of Papillion and Kindig of LaVista, and Steve Zey, along with nearly 20 other supporters, put on a wonderful event. Dawn and I felt like it was a homecoming, and as we lived in Papillion for several years, it was!
