Sihanoukville, Cambodia dockerillsLeaving the hot and dusty Cambodian cities, Rich and I were very very excited by the prospect of beaches, food and yes some beers... A place where you can actually enjoy the heat by taking of the surplus layers and cooling off by playing in the sea or with a cool alcoholic beverage : ) We based ourselves in the main backpacker area at Serendipity beach. Initially, we stayed at Monkey Republic although we quickly moved to Mick & Craig;s next door. Although the place's atmosphere wasn't qui...

Sihanoukville, Cambodia michelle_austynSihanoukville is the major beach resort in Cambodia. We stayed near the most popular beach, Serendipity. This is lined with little shacks serving up the cheapest BBQ food and beer that we had come across in Cambodia. In short, here's how it went: Day 1: Moved in to Romney GH run by the very friendly Romney family, then...beach Day 2: Motor-bike to other beaches, satisfied with current location! Day 3: Beach Day 4: Beach Day 5: Beach Day 6: Beach Day 7: Beach Day 8: Beach Day 9: Beach Day 10: ...

Sihanoukville, Sihanoukville, Cambodia sammie22 Hi guys,
Just a quick note to say that we are safely in Cambodia (Sihanoukville), it was a long
day yesterday and we are shattered. We got the boat at 8am yesterday morning to Rach Gia (from
Phu Quoc) and then managed to hop onto a local bus to Ha Tien (close to the
border with Cambodia) - there were no taxi's so we had to ride on the back of a
motorbike to the border. We had a wait at immigration cos our friend didnt have
the correct stamps from the Vietnam border ...
We got into Sihanoukville quite late and we wanted to go stay at monkey republic, which soe guy at the bus station was flyering for. we'd also read it was good. with cheap bungalows and near the beach. However they were ful and we ended up staying nearby at mike and craig's guesthouse. it was ok, but the food was really expensive. The first night we went and bought a tower of anchor beer. Its like a huge containter with a tap at the bottom and they fill it up with draught and then you can pou...
Sihanoukville, Sihanoukville, Cambodia theo_Bus trip down yesterday went smoothly, took around 4 1/2 hours, so we were here just after midday. In typical Cambodian style, the bus was met at the bus station by 40,000 moto, tuktuk and taxi drivers. They started off wanting $6 for a tuktuk, but after (many times) repeating that we'd rather walk than pay that much we got them down to $3. A short (2km) tuktuk ride later we were at Mick & Craig's Guesthouse where we got the last room ($10, fan, cold shower). A friend of ours stayed here in N...
Sihanoukville, Cambodia varneyThe wind has picked up again, so we've put the overnight dive trip to the islands on hold. Spent most of yesterday at the beach, working on our tans and getting some odd beauty treatments - for want of a better name. Since I'm getting a bit long in the tooth now, my back has started getting hairy, which isn't overly cool. Fortunately though, here in Cambodia they have a revolutionary new treatment to get rid of hairs, involving talcum powder and a roll of cotton. Yes, it's true. Basically the...
Sihanoukville, Cambodia varneyAnd there went that week. We never did get out diving, the winds never died down, so we decided it wasn't worth it. Yesterday we went for a long walk to Independence Beach. Couldn't be more different than Seredipity where we've spent most of our time. Apart from the northernmost 100m the whole beach is deserted. The last 100m is 'owned' by the Independence Hotel which towers above it. At the southernmost end there is the usual Cambodian beach stall which sells fruit, drinks and simple salads....
Sihanoukville, Cambodia varney... and a whole load of little bugs neither of us could identify. Now its very important to say that we've shared 99.9% of bathrooms (when we've had an indoor bathroom!) with ants and lizards, which we've come to accept... but this place was a mini wildlife reserve. The walls and floors were crawling. But the show must go on! We stayed for the night then moved onto more hygienic accommodation the next morning. We went on a trip ...
