Historical Traveler Reviews of Michelangelo Hotel New York City
Look no further, this is a good one

We stayed here for a week in March 2003 with our child to do the NYC tourist thing and we could not have been happier with the hotel. GREAT location, friendly staff and not terribly expensive by NYC standards.
Our regular room was not huge but big enough and the bathroom was quite elegant. This is a small hotel so we did not feel like a small fish in a big sea like in the bigger mega-hotels in the area. If location is everything, it does't get much better. We needed a lot of help from the concierge and he was just great. We won't even look at another hotel next time we visit the City.
Bad Service, Italian Style
from A TripAdvisor Member
The Michelangelo has a reserved stately appearance and an unfortunate egotistical streak. The rooms are appropriately cramped for Manhattan standards, the service is abysmal. The desk reception was surly at best and connecting with the upper management to reslove a hotel billing error was next to impossible. The manager confessed to a problem but was unaware of the details, only to delegate to another who merely kept saying "mistakes happen". Spare yourself the indignity of dealing with this staff. Stay elswhere.

Forget the Plaza...We're going back to the Michelangelo

Can't say enough great things about this hotel. My husband and I decided to stay at the Michelangelo for our anniversary and LOVED it. We've stayed in a lot of hotels for work and pleasure and fell in love with this boutique gem in New York. Our room was quiet and decorated beautifully. You can always tell a good hotel by the hallways...if it looks like hundreds of tourists have flocked through, you're in trouble. Not a problem at the Michelangelo. The hotel was lovely and you could tell that they go to great lengths to make it look and feel luxurious. It did remind us of the boutique hotel we stayed in when we honeymooned in Paris...only our room at the Michelangelo was much larger and better appointed. Our room had double shades so you could block out the lights and the sounds of the streets below which enabled us to sleep in and miss the free breakfast they offered at the hotel. We didn't care..It's New York after all....we would rather hit one of our favorite restaurants than worry about getting a free continental breakfast. Stay at the Michelangelo...you'll love it!!!
Tough to beat!

The Michelangelo hotel is a real find! Stayed 5 nights in a king room. It was huge! Bathroom was especially nice. The hotel's location cannot be beat. Service was excellent. Skip the continential breakfast in the morning even though its included in the tab. It's terrible. Head to the cafe Europa two blocks away instead. My only complaint is that I found the room's heating & air cond. system to be pretty noisy, but it only interferred with my sleep on the first night. Also, if a well-equipped fitness center is important to you, go to the Parker Meridien. But the Michelangelo is a charming, exceptionally well located hotel and I won't hesitate to stay there again.
Fantastic Hotel

I researched NY hotels for my girlfriends b'day and got a great deal online. The rooms are spacious, elegant, and very quiet. The staff couldn't be nicer (Warning to all of you confirmed bachelors out there. The staff assumes you are Mr and Mrs. I think that was her favorite part of the experience.) Huge marble bathtub, Bose stereo, comfy bed, if you want to pamper yourself, this is the place.
I loved this hotel!

I absolutely loved this hotel. I booked a regular king room, but was upgraded to a studio upon arrival. The room was fantastic! The bed was very comfortable, the robes were nice and comfy and the marble bathtub was great. The room was large with a seating area and a large bathroom with a separate dressing room. The staff was also amazing. I ordered room service for dinner one night and the next morning, when I saw the server at breakfast, he asked if I enjoyed my dinner. The complimentary breakfast and cappuccino was great in the mornings as was the selection of national and international newspapers. I wish I had stayed here on my last trip to New York!
A Fine Weekend!
from Skeezix53
Stayed the weekend at a great weekend rate (from the hotel's own website!) in two rooms. Good, central location. Beautiful, large rooms. Both (even the single) had a sitting area. Big bathtubs, all ammenties (including double window shades to keep out the aggressive street light. ) Tinkling chandeliers in the evators, very good service. New York Times delivered to the room and an accessible, high speed computer for guest use in a lobby alcove. Helpful concierge. The bar/breakfast area off the lobby was very nice, but I would steer clear of the restaurant--too pricey for the level of the cuisine. The breakfast I had included over-cooked sausage and dry, almost stale toast. They should stick to the hotel business.
Sometimes you have to indulge yourself!

After reading lots of great online reviews, we chose the Michelangelo for our anniversary weekend. This place is perfect if you want to indulge yourself and be surrounded by luxury! Down to the smallest detail, this place is truly a work of art. The Renaissance style and fine Italian artwork are combined with the highest quality furniture and fabrics. And MARBLE. Lots of marble. The room was perfect, and the bath was big enough for two! The luxurious bathrobes were a nice touch as well. We brought along a CD of our wedding songs, and it sounded amazing on the BOSE stereo in our room. I can't think of a better place to have celebrated our anniversary, and we look forward to returning again!
