... went to bed!!!! All in a days' work.

Now I am in a place that is so different to where I have been for the last few days. It’s normal. You can go to a café and have a beer, wear shorts and a singlet, the temperature is a nice 30 degrees and the people are normal and very relaxed ( Greek style living). The only thing the same are the costs. No backpacker places so you are forced into a hotel which is always more expensive and ...

... Sokak for a few days. First stop on the journey was the bank, our bank cards have arrived. Then onwards to the Cirali Bakery and cafe to pick up some eats for our flight home.....dont fancy Easyjet catering. Onwards to Lefkosia parking at Ledra Palace crossing and strolling over the border. ...

... because a lot of the sights are not in the city center. Not bad for 10 Euro. I saw the 3rd or 4th most holy (depends who you ask I guess) site, a mosque on a large salt flat with (allegedly) the tomb on Mohammad's wet nurse. Because of the Cypriot schism, though, it is not a big pilgrimage site. The salt flat supposedly gets lots of migratory birds in winter and spring, including lots of flamingos, but, being the end of summer, there were no birds ...

... a divided country was all that was left in the aftermath.

Nicosia/North Nicosia/Lefkosia ... whatever you want to call it, it's one of the most pronounced remnants of the most recent chapter in the country's tale of adversity. Cyprus became an independent republic in 1960, but as is usually the case with a nascent country, a cause to celebrate quickly deteriorated into violence and a fractionated nation, as old animosities reared their ugly ...
