        ... just sit and endure it without
        complaint and seemed shocked when you mention it.

        Went through more sertao, the local equivalent of savannah, but today was less dry and cactussy – higher scrub and more of the pretty pointless palms – they don’t seem to produce fruit and grow naturally in the lowlands, so maybe they don’t need a point or are the source of the locally beloved palm hearts.

        ... influence is still maintained with buildings in teh same style we have become used to - mosaic tiles, small balconies with decorative railings, large doors and windows and coloured buildings. We did a tour around the coffee factory and museum. Its in a wonderful old building with artwork by a famous Brazilian artist.         ... great, then the road sort of ran out, it is a main road, but it turned into a muddy track, it’s all churned up by the timber trucks that run up and down just rip the road up, mind you everything uses the road, cars, bikes, cattle and trucks and us, we were going to turn round but a guy told us it gets batter after 5 Km or so , we just went on and it did get better in fact it became tarmac, so it was a case of toe down and crack on
