... side of the street, there were crowds of people covered in white foam and flour and throwing and shooting powder and foam across the street out of homemade guns and slingshots. They were clearly aiming for the bus' windows and then they started running up to the bus, prying open the windows, and trying to shoot the powder and foam into the bus. Most of us were successful in fending off the attackers but this one poor old man right in front of me ...

One guy even tracked me down after I got off the bus to hand me 10,000 pesos! That's like US$5; a pretty good tip in the states ...

It really was an amazing week in Rio and another highlight to add to the list which at this stage is longer than I am.
The time had come for us to go our separate ways, Baz back to Oz, Emmet to Canada, Smurf and Tom to Bolivia and Peru but I'll see there ugly mugs again in a few weeks. I flew to Cali last Thursday. Colombia marks my last country before I return to Europe and the ...

Short note: We apologise in advance for the length of this blog, but it is difficult to put our experience in Colombia into such a small space.

As we finally arrived into Colombia, we were swarmed by rival bus companies and women with chicken. We managed to dodgily exchange our Venezuelan money behind closed doors with a man who then negotiated a cheaper bus price on our behalf.

We arrived to Santa Marta, our least favourite smelling city ...
