      Charming Hotel

      from

Breathtaking views from this charming hotel. Excellent location allowed us easy access to everything we needed. Staff was knowledgable and very helpful. Great value for the price.

      Great service and family hotel

      from

had 5 days recently at this lake side hotel and the service daily from all of the staff excellent whch added to this unique location overlooking the lake.

not only was the hotal and staff friendly but also the catering staff and so with the good location for trains transport and the local shops and facilitie then this is a place to go not just in the summer but out of that season as we did. good base for exploring other areas and even wothout a csar the good value trains and buses make it good as well

As I say not a large hotel but a relatively small family facilty with the benefits that you would expect

      Enjoyable Experience

      from

A fantastic location overlooking the lake and close to the charming town. We stayed for a short break in beautiful late winter days and the hotel provided a great base for seeing this magnificent area. The hotel itself has undergone some renovation and was exceedingly good value.

The catering staff were excellent and went out of their way to be helpful and attentive.

DO NOT STAY HERE!!!! This is a dump.

      from

I just returned a week ago from 2 weeks in Italy and this hotel was the worst!! It's rated as a 4 star hotel, and should be a 2 star. The rooms were tiny and very poorly furnished. Our bathroom did not have a shower, only a hand held shower wand in the tiniest bathtub you've ever seen...and not even a shower curtain around it. Taking a shower meant the floor was totally soaked and a real hazard. We had a "view" of an alley, and the rates were not cheap. Other guests that we chatted with over breakfast were also complaining and said they were going to write letters of complaint when they returned home. One of the comments heard several times, was that the people on the desk acted like you were bothering them if you asked a simple question. I've stayed in a Motel 6 that was more comfortable.

      Good value

      from

This hotel has a great location, right on the lake front and next to the main square, Piazza Cavour. Try booking through the consolidator website, www.supranational.com We saved 40% on the rate the hotel was asking. Rooms are rather dated but clean and reasonably spacious. Ask for a balcony - it's lovely to sit outside and watch the activity on the lake. For the price, this hotel is recommended.

      Do Not Stay Here

      from

While the hotel itself is nice, and location is great, I would not recommend this hotel. The maid and housekeeping staff are thieves. On Saturday, May 27, 2003, my spouse accidentally left a diamond and sapphire ring in the bathroom after a shower and getting dressed for the day. We discovered this after leaving the hotel for the day, and when we returned the ring was gone. Yes, it should have been either worn, or locked up in the safe, but it was accidentally left out in a rush to get to a scheduled tour departure. The staff and management did absolutely nothing to try to find the culprit of the crime, only blaming us for leaving the ring out on the bathroom counter. Other than that, the hotel was wonderful, but based upon this experience, I would not return to this facility.

      Varenna and other towns

... Nice town but not as good as the others. I've got about a million photos of the day. Unfortunately it's quite hazy so they won't show how beautiful this region is. Finally I go back to Varenna. This (for me) is definitely the best town. It's smaller and I love it. My BnB is in the square but the top floor balcony has beautiful views over the lake. I'm tired so have an early night. Just snack on ...

... 8217;s chair in it! I was expecting to do the formal paperwork and then try to negotiate an appointment later next week, but they want to look at it now. Great.

So I sit in the chair & she, the dentist now I guess, asks if I have any pain. I say, no, but a filling has fallen out. She asks where & I point.

I open my mouth as she quickly looks in that part of my mouth & then starts to tap quite solidly the offending tooth and I think, ...

      Rome to Varenna (via Milan)

I'm on the move again today. Metro to Termini train station and fast train to Milan at 11am. Takes 3 hours. Speeds of around 248 kms an hour. My ears keep popping when we go through the tunnels. The terrain is very similar to down south. Rolling hills etc., with flat plains in between. I can't see so many olive trees though and there's a lot more grape vines. It still all looks very beautiful. Can't say for sure but the soil looks a lot more sandier than ...

      Como in Lombardy

Como is the big town the lake. Despite the off season, people are still milling about. Restaurants are still open although some hotels (even the big Swiss hotels) are shut for renovations.

We had planned to take a ride up the Funicular to the town of Brunate, at the top. The co-ordinates were set in the GPS handoff we went. We started climbing and after a couple of thousand metres (OK, it felt like that) we ended up in ...

      Bologna - Milan - Como

Time to leave Bologna so packed up the car & headed off to Milan. Not much for brekkie today just coffee, croissant & prosciutto. They had what was labelled as scrambled eggs but the orange mass before me did not resemble anything I believed possible to create with eggs. So thought it may well not be the culinary highlight of the trip & decided to pass on that option.

On the way between Bologna & Milan I had noticed a wee place ...
