Venice to Rome

... coffee (unless it was Turkish coffee) was generally dreadful and the tea worse. Turkish tea is called cay (chai) and comes black in those lovely tulip shaped glasses. Unfortunately, to our taste buds it is bitter and stewed. Drinking it with milk is a no, no even if you can find milk. We took to drinking apple tea but even that became too sweet. Crossing canals and weaving through alleyways and archways, we could hear the faint voices of gondoliers serenading their guests. The charm of Venice is very prominent and the city engulfs you like a warm blanket on a very wet and dreary day. The leaves from the few trees in the city have started to fall and ...

... buddies had arrived.

A couple of hours later, reunited with our good friends, we headed out to catch a vaporetto, or waterbus, and check out the area around the Doge’s Palace and St. Mark’s Square. Of course we stopped for our first of many gelatos along the way. Trying to get on a vaporetto was a little challenging since the ticket machines weren’t working at San ...
