On Saturday the 28th of April I felt ready to explore Brisbane. Brisbane is Australia's 3rd largest city with a population of 1.5 million. Yes the same as Dublin, but without the traffic and the hustle and bustle of a big city it feels more like Eindhoven :-) While I had been traveling to Brisbane I had heard allot of criticism about this city, people were saying that it's boring and that there is nothing to do there. I was determined to find something good about this city. I set off on a g...
Brisbane, Australia ger1The next day was Sunday and I was hungover. :-) It was the first room I stayed in that was even dark in the morning I stayed in bed until about 11:30. Lovely. I had lunch and watched some TV in the afternoon. Then it was time for a cure :-) I went down to the Tinbilly bar for a drink. I started talking to an oz man from Gympie. We was very interested in the stories I had to tell about Amsterdam. Later that day a couple sad down near me and on the girls t-shirt it said south Africa and I had t...

... for the Lake District back home but as daylight came to a close the green landscape was replaced with a dry sandy desert. We arrived in Kalgoorlie-Boulder late at night and I headed off on the whistle stop tours that the train organises. Kalgooorlie-Boulder is a Gold mining town and is definitely different from the Coastal Cities & Towns. The daily life of miners here involves working there asses off all day (or night depending on shift) then drinking lots of beer at the numerous ...
Brisbane, Queensland, Australia richardlodge... attractive parks for the kids and barbecue sites. There are also numbers of ‘arty’ installations that reflect the early settlement of the area. This seems to be a common theme all along the shoreline throughout the area, with many towns and bays being keen to install something to commemorate the first identification or settlement by Europeans. These often note the ships and the names of people involved such as the captains and ...
Brisbane, Queensland, Australia jenandtonyWell finally home! Sad and happy – sad to have finished holiday as Rosa and I had a great time everywhere we went and I am getting used to sleeping in; happy cos I am sick of jamming all my clothes and junk into my backpack, missing my bed and a predictable wall shower! Managed to stay awake until 10.30 on Friday as Hawaii is almost 24 hours behind so morning was morning etc so really only needed to catch up on the lack of sleep on the flight – tried to sleep but had ...

Brisbane, Queensland, Australia mshulist... We finally got to our destination and spent a very interesting couple of hours at an exhibition entitled 'Optimism' the principal exhibit of which featured a video of a woman with tears streaming down her face as she listened to a tarot card reader try to convince her that she had a message for her from her dead grandmother! The best exhibit however, as far as I was concerned was the complete floor section of an old 'Queenslander' house, which was hung on one ...
Brisbane, Queensland, Australia nickadams... guys last night. This ended up being a great evening. The next day I had a look round the main shopping street and then went along southbank which had a made up swimming pool and Beach in the middle of the street which is a good idea as Brisbane is very hot and quite along way from the sea. On the Thursday Enzo and I checked out the Queensland museum which was free and paid extra to go into the lower section which was more a ...
Brisbane, Queensland, Australia andy10265The Australian weather I was expecting finally caught up with me in Brisbane! Clare, Hana and Finn picked me up from the airport and as soon as we got to their place by boots came off and on went my flip flops! I discovered that Ken and Clare had arranged for Hana and Finn to have the next day off school so we wondered what we should do ... Didn't take too long to work out - Ken and I had already discussed the finer points of where I could ...
