... history. The island is called the Dominican Republic. Many people travel there on honeymoons or to one of their many resorts for a week or two. Nikki, our friend Lexie and I decided to stay with one of friends for one month. Nikki and I actually traveled to the D.R 2 years prior and met Lexie and our friend Crystal there. Lexis is from PA and Crystal is from the island.
Nikki and I were nervous our first time travels to the D.R. We didn't not speak Spanish ...

... We were happy on the air conditioned bus just waiting to see how they'd get us out!
On our last night we had a final dinner and then waited for the disco to open. Janine insisted I go with her. Most or all of the 20 somethings went to bed. I was up until 4. They prefer to play local music rather than our pop or dance songs so the dancing wasn't all that great.

... invited to stay for the end-of-day ceremony, where all of the students go outside and arrange themselves in lines in front of the Dominican flag, and then they sing the national anthem and say a prayer. This was really special to see, and it is a tradition that many of the smaller schools practice. We still have to go to the 3rd batey, but it is in completely different direction, so we will have to go another day! ...

... maturity levels among this wide range of students. We have started weekly mentoring sessions, as she really has had no training in French before, and wants to be able to teach the students to speak properly after I leave. She is a wonderful person and teacher, and the students all love her...they love all of their teachers. Actually, I think that the best part of my day is when I arrive at the gate to the school yard, and one student notices me ...
