... make it to the airport by any means possible. We told them what we knew and then we were told that there might be a way to get some satellite communication through NDTV who is stationned at the Srinagar University. We headed that way but learned very little, other than some high ranking civilians tried to make it to the airport but against public outcry, they had to turn around. Apparently, about 70% of flights are coming in and out but with no ...

Along the way, other Shikaras selling jewellery pulled up along sides and we had the ...

Amazingly the fire was under control before it spread to the next house and then the fire brigade arrived. Ashraf came back and reported that the fire was caused by a leaking gas cylinder in the kitchen between the houseboat and the house. They saved the houseboat by moving it. The only damage was to the kitchen ...

... Srinagar and possibly our imagination had run amuck. Yolanda had told us for years about the wonderful houseboat stay she had here in the 80's. We also remembered seeing tourist advertising with beautiful Dal Lake backed by majestic mountains. We descended down from high alpine area, which would make a good movie location for a remake for an Indian version of Sound of Music, to an overcrowded, stagnant ...
