... seemed to be only one going to Srinagar and he was asking 1000 INR and had only two places left and was leaving at 09:30, so we took it. We had barely an hour to check out of our respective hotel. I returned to mine, the New International Hotel, to find the manager stucked on getting 1500 INR per night for the room which had barely 2 hours of electricity per day, no hot water, and even no water at all on the last day. ... meal of roast chicken, fish, potatoes and vegetables. Everyone loved it. We re all reading and relaxing after dinner when a random man walked onto the boat and started showing me jewellery. It was crazy! Home shopping on a whole 'nother level! He had some lovely things but I really couldn't entertain the idea of bargaining or buying another thing today. So it's an early night tonight after a relaxed and soothing day. And an early start tomorrow to see the floating ...

... curtains fell from each window creating a shadowy effect with carpets on the walls and floors. It felt very cosy as we settled for a few nights. We took a boat ride, a gnarled old man gently paddled us and like a gondola we reclined on brightly embroidered rugs and gazed across the lake, I liked the cucumbers growing on little islands and the cheerful way any boat nearby stopped for a chat to pass the time of day, life passes slowly here. ...
