... off work for holiday's and a rain day. Not ideal, but we still are making a little money. We stuck round hoping to work that Saturday and Sunday but on Saturday morning we heard a knock on our caravan and it was Merv, the guy in charge of Talley's workers. He told us, because we were leaving anyway on Monday to go ahead on our holiday because they only want 8 people per shift. So, Talley's, the one place in NZ that is giving ...
Ashburton, South Island, New Zealand unbound... The views from the top of Mt Hutt were out of this world with multiple snow covered peaks in every direction. We were lucky enough to be able to catch the exciting Peak to Pub race where the competitors skiied down the mountain, cycled from the summit to the base and ran the remaining 8km to the Blue Pub. We were very sorry to leave the crisp and clear mountain air and continue our journey.
Methven, South Island, New Zealand ruairioc... I was linking turns and was able to stop. I wished that we would have had another day of lessons. We were told later than it takes 3 days to get the hang of snowboarding. I guess we will have to give it another go when we get back home. I liked snowboarding. I think more than skiing. But maybe that is because I had lessons for snowboarding and I never did for skiing. I am not sure I should be picking up another expensive sport just yet...
Methven, New Zealand rlholthof... and table football.. :) (whilst England were being thrashed by the all blacks in wellington)!!! Day 2 : Safety, safety and more safety... As boring as it is there are soo many hazards involved when working on a ski field that you have to take note.. We had a guy come in and do a talk on ski field safety which involved just a few basic group exercises and alot of just being talked at!! It struck me from the very start just how far NZ is behind with safety matters ...
Springfield, New Zealand sneekybeeky... arrived at Mt. Hutt. It is about 6000 ft and comes out of no where. Very interesting land around here. Mountains, gorges, plains, oceans. Plots of land are devided by hedge rows of popular, hemlock, pine and all well trimmed. Today we arrived at a golf resort. Signed in to our villa, golfed, and got ...
Methven, New Zealand jimandlee... Very nice views, which then turned into a stunning view, once we got to the gorge itself. Lunch by the river, the colour of which was an amazing turquoise. The pictures don't quite capture how brilliant it was. Then a walk to get a bit higher up and a better view of the twists and turns of the river. It was very hot work so on the ...

Auckland, New Zealand craigjukes... have perfect hedges. He told us they were genetically altered. When we got to Pudding Hill we all were singing the Sponge Bob theme song. One of the gals from the FullOn crew got on the bus to welcome us. When we got in their learning room the crew was dancing to "Celebrate", or at least that's what I think the name of this song was. We did a few activities in this room. They had us acting like monkeys, dinosaurs, elephants, frogs ...
Christchurch, New Zealand p2pwichitaWe left Lake Tekapo in the morning (the colours on the lake were amazing as the sun rose in the sky) and drove onwards North through central South Island until we reached Geraldine about an hour later. In Geraldine we asked about another Lord of the Rings location in the book - Edoras. This was filmed in a place called Mount Sunday which wasn't on any maps. We were advised to drive to ...
Methven, New Zealand vblowry2000You should have seen the hostel outside Oamaru - less than two years old, posh comfy furniture, kitchen and kit to die for, glorious sea views, friendly helpful owner and the biggest, slobberiest, friendliest dog in the known universe. We wandered into Oamaru on a Sunday when they run their steam train, complete with everyone in period costume - it's all set against their whitestone buildings and a dusty air of past glories. We even saw a blue penguin in ...
