    ... customs, but the man I asked said he could sort it. He spoke to the customs lady who stamped my receipt, then said that I needed to pay 20 rand as a thank you. Corrupt b*****d, but I paid it anyway. After passport control, I found the VAT desk and handed them the receipt, begrudgingly they gave me a cheque for 110 rand which I had to cash downstairs. This I did and after charging me commission and VAT, I ended up with just 73 rand. So taking off the 20 rand it worked out at ...

    ... Bush, nature in the raw, and encounters with wildlife. Those subjects all deserve attention, of course, and perhaps can be addressed in another posting.     Travel tip #51 When in a country where you see no other people who are white, think twice before taking ANY pictures at all. You are not in the United States.

    I'll be flying in a few hours down to South Africa and will post what I have so far and will add to this day later. I look forward to seeing all our friends, the Wallis's, Websters and others in Pretoria.
