I will be sending out my usual travelpod updates as to all my crazy ventures. Please feel free to forward my emails to anyone who might be interested. Also, I will not be offended if you wish to be taken off my email list. Now here is a quick update about our flight halfway across the globe. After flying for two days, Manpreet (a classmate of mine) and I arrived in Johannesburg this morning (Thursday). The flight was good and we meet some really cool people. On my flight from SFO to Frankford...

... as they have a lot of questions. Heather prepares a scrumptious meal consisting of roast lamb (the best we have had on this trip), roast potatoes and milk tart for dessert. Unfortunately, our time with them is short, but it is pure quality time. It starts to rain late in the evening for a short while. Yes, we’re here for a good time, not a long time, so have a good time, the sun can’t shine every day.
Johannesburg, South Africa boydandrose... trip...you sure learn a lot about people when you take a 6 hour bus ride with them!! The kids were sure troppers even during the most trying times where you find yourself in a bus badly needing to use the wash room and all you can get access to is an outhouse that does not have the most pleasant smell to say the least...we sure have many stories to tell. I have attached a photo of one of the cleanest washrooms we used in Malawi....
Johannesburg, South Africa martinphiri... saying but now I don't understand what they mean. Could be a long month. The bad news was that we got a SSSS designation in US Customs which meant a special screening including dusting for drugs or something and shoes off and body pat down etc.... Pretty exciting stuff and all before 6AM. The good news is that our lugguage arrived safe and sound (though mine had ...
Kelowna, South Africa marybc... never seen it look so amazing. It was orange. It was red. And it was huge. It was probably the closest I've ever seen the moon. You could actually see all of the craters, which I've only been able to see before with a telescope. Being half way around the world sure is a different feeling. Well that's all for today. I'm just gonna lay in bed and watch good ol' Dumb and Dumber =D ~Alyssa
Johannesburg, South Africa baronefamily... the Aparthied Museum was very good. However, because of the whole Escom and not enough energy crisis, the power was cut to the museum just as we arrived and since it was a dark museum with very little natural light, it became impossible to see things. That night we stayed at the Airport Grand Hotel. If you are a light sleeper, I would not ...
Johannesburg, South Africa heatherkassab... her mid-60s.) There were about eight of us gathered around the dinner table in the dining room of Annette's very nice, big house. We had interesting conversation on a number of topics, including the current situation in Zimbabwe. It is easy for white South Africans to think that their country is destined for the same fate as that unfortunate country. Inevitably, the conversation also turned to the high crime rate in South Africa. Not a single non-black person at the table ...
Johannesburg, South Africa bangkokrandy... in the bar. It was at this point I resolved to keep a very close eye on my mosquito net, or before long some dude would be walking down the road in a mosquito net shirt at my expense.( probably Ste Campey - he always did go for materials he describes as "floaty"). 15th February to 21st February Flying, Danish Girls and One Nasty International Incident Brewing In My Underpants. Diary entries are a bit thin on the ground for the last week, this is mainly dude to ...
Hoedspruit, South Africa olibray... paid - who says the age of chivalry is dead ! Had lobster, langoustine, prawns the size of your leg and Calamari. Compared to the stuff i had eaten for the previous three weeks this was nothing short of a revelation. Not learning from my previous diplomatic intervention on the subject of Palestine back in Tofo i once again took her to task for her zealous, near fanatical position on the situation and helpfully pointed out all the ways her argument sucked and how poor she was at ...
Nelspruit, South Africa jimbarnard... car and walk to a tent on the side of the road. There, the driver will receive a lecture on tire pressure or some other driving safety tip. They then give you some condoms and send you on your way. Once we got to Pretoria, we enjoyed a few days of creature comforts. Ice cream, internet, going to movies (don´t see Superman, it sucks) and just basicly getting some odds and ends done. We got our ...
