... both brought a friend, Pieter joined for the birdwatching and Robert and I finally had some time to spend toghether...

We visited the Ebro Delta, Els Ports, Cretas, Calaceite, Beseite, Horta de San Joan, and other beautiful places in the Mataranya area. We checked that our Finca still is home to Otters,Crayfish, deer, wild boar, rabbits, foxes, and now we know even badgers (Tejon).
We met new neighbours Anna (Boodaville project) and Helmut and Britt and caught up ...

... would take us right next to the peninsula. We got to the beach just north of where we wanted to be by about 12, so we all sat down and ate our bocadillos (sandwiches that everybody's host mom had given for the trip). Then we started a small walk around the peninsula, stopping to take pictures, and then got to the castle around 2. The castle of Peñíscola is the biggest attraction ...

... and the air seemed thundery! So we did the 5km back along the very steep rocky trail to the campsite and not long after we arrived it started to rain.
This was the first time this year I had ridden my bike very far, and I was definitely saddle sore - although the padded knickers ...

... Mora d'Ebre (Ebro) and Gandesa to the campsite at Arnes - really in the middle of nowhere!

The roads there took us through some wonderful scenery, past ochre orange/red rocks, down gorges and along ridges. There were also large fertile plains with olive groves, vines and almonds

Anyway, today proved that it works to some extent. We cycled on the via verda but going the other way – downhill. After my tunnel experience a couple of days ago, I was armed with a bike light but still dismayed at having to go through my first tunnels within metres of starting the ride. This time however ...
