Today we had a two hour drive along the highway to Knossos, an archeological site from the Minoan age. It was a Minoan palace that was nearly 4000 years old. It was home to a king who asked Apollo for a bull to sacrifice to honour Apollo. The bull was so beautiful though that the king sacrificed another one,which made Apollo angry. He then made the queen fall in love with the bull, which produced the Minotaur, a half human, half bull, which lived on human blood. ...
... Minotaur in. Today there isn't too much left of the palace. There are some parts of the palace still standing though, and, from what I saw, I think the palace would be really impressive. Unfortunately a British archeologist, Arthur Evans, in 1900 had started to excavate the ruins but he tried to recreate the palace how he thought it should be. I had planned from Israel to fly to Crete, to bypass Athens and fly over Brindisi on my side trip to Croatia. But today was about getting to Crete. We had an uneventful flight from Athens to Heraklion. Our travel agent had arranged for our hotel to pick us up from the airport but, when we arrived no-one was there. A very helpful Greek man phoned the hotel for us and, after waiting 30-60 mins, our driver arrived. (We were very impressed at how friendly and helpful the Greek people were!)
