Day 4 - Sheer and Utter Opulence
We woke up around 8:00 in the morning. I slept great again! We Skyped Marty to iron some things out and also talked to Frances for a while. It was good to hear voices from home. We went down and got some coffee to start the day, it had become a morning ritual. Kelcy was in the mood for noodles which lead us to the place we had eaten the night …
Bye bye Bangkok
Having spent the last 7 days in complete absence of any aircon, I felt in need of a little indulgence. Hence, swapping overnight trains for a short flight, and hostels for a luxury hotel was my agenda for the final leg of my Thai adventure. I woke early, already packed from the night before, walked to the main road in Chiang Mai, and found a tuk …
Day 1 in Bangkok
I didn't sleep well. Woke up around 5am (Bankok time) and not long after they started serving breakfast. It was dawn when we flew in to Bankok and it was beautiful from the air. Luch greenery, winding canals, flooded rice paddys, suburbs, tine houses, huge skyscrapers...
We landed at Suvanabhuri Airport (huge! and built in an interesting ultra …
Day 3 - Last day in Bangkok
We wake up around 9 and stumble down for breakfast. Now that we feel a bit better, we take a taxi to Siam Square and Sukhumvit with only one thing on our minds... SHOPPING!
We start off at a luxury mall with shops like Chanel and Versace it's a great place for buying nice outfits, but not so suitable for the bargain shopping everyone told …
Singapore- Bangkok-Chiang Mai
Singapore was very good, well Westernized was like being in a nice American city.A shark dive on a sunday morning hungover, oversleeping and with no food is not a good idea...I really hope Ko Toh is a better and more chilled, rather than here stick this in you're mouth and jump in.

Best view of Bangkok & delicious cocktails

With the sky bar acting as a reassuring beacon, the Lebua was a grand and imposing hotel from our arrival. Check in was quick and painless, complete with an 'upgrade' to a room that didn't exactly scream romance...two twin beds.
The room was fine, tired and past it's prime, but a large, airy and cool paradise from the smoggy enclosing heat of the city.

We stayed on the 51st floor overlooking the river and the cityscape. The service was fantastic and we were always greeted with a friendly smile. The bouffet breakfast is something to behold and the swimming pool on the 30th floor is amazing. We went for cocktails at Scirocco sky bar and once again the views was to die for and the service was impeccable. The hotel is situated near a main riverboat station and is just a little south of the Grand Palace. I would recommend this to anyone who wants luxury and comfort in a central place in Bankok.

We got a few nights at a decent rate on agoda to stay at this hotel. It seriously has the wow factor. From the minute you walk in the staff look after your every need. We were upgraded to a suite on the 58th floor and the room and view was to die for. The sky bar is unbelievable. No one can say a bad word about this hotel...amazing.

The Lebua hotel is very good, the decor has a bit of an identity crisis though. It is a wild mix between the Venetian, the Four Seasons and the Hyatt. But the service is definitively five star, everyone is helpful and friendly, apart from one individual, the concierge. He was just very annoying, lets leave it at that.

Historical Traveler Reviews lebua at State Tower Bangkok
Great location
Stayed here for 2 nights. Had corner suite overlooking river. Accommodation is fantastic for the price - 2 large bedrooms and bathrooms and enormous living area. Perfect for a family. Room also included washing machine and dryer.
Hotel pool area was nice although we thought that the area by the lounge beds was very noisy (it is by the air conditioning systems). Pool is lovely size but was very cold.
Restaurant area excellent.
Hotel is only five minutes walk from both the river and the skytrain and so perfectly located.
Great Hotel!
While I wanted to stay at the Meritus Suites my entire stay, I was only able to book my last few nights there, as it was New Year's eve week and occupancy throughout Bangkok was quite high.
The hotel location is fantastic. It's walking distance from the BTS (sky train) and right on Silom Road.
The lobby is nothing to write home about (but who cares - you aren't spending your time in a hotel lobby!), but once you go up to the 54th floor (or higher), and enter your room....WOW! The rooms have a living room area, huge bathroom, little kitchen area and an absolutely beautiful view of Bangkok from the balcony.
As a sun worshipper, the only disappointment was the pool. There is only a small area of the pool deck that gets sun, and its only for a 2 hour period each day.
I've stayed in over a dozen hotels in Bangkok, from 3 star to 5 star and, all in all, the Meritus Suites is a great new hotel in Bangkok that I'd recommend without qualms.
Meritus Suites is a spectacular hotel
The Meritus Suites is a spectacular hotel. From the moment you arrive, you know you are in a special place. The staff are extremely warm and will do anything to make your stay the best. You are taken to your room sitting on the clouds over Bangkok by a very fast elevator. The rooms are beautiful and huge. The oversized king bed and the living room furniture are very comfortable. My room looked down at the river and it was stunning. The open air restaurant/bar on the top floor has breathless views and live music. A great place to start or finish your night. The pool and spa facilities are top notch with an outstanding staff. The location of the hotel is very convenient to the expressway, the sky train, and the ferries.I spent two weeks at the hotel and had an unforgettable experience.
Meritus - An Absolute Pleasure
We stayed at the Meritus Suites for the first four days of our month long honeymoon and it was incredible. The rooms were spacious with the biggest bed I have ever come across in my life, fabulous bathroom and a gorgeous view (NB the balcony doors are now locked due to new regulations in Thailand - these can be unlocked if you approach staff at reception and sign a waiver).
The staff were helpful and professional at all times. When we stayed there seemed to be around 4-6 staff for every guest although this was during low season. The transfer service was efficient and the buffet breakfast was one of the best in Thailand.
Best of all - the Dome Restaurant on top of the building is definitely worth visiting. It remains one of the highlights in Bangkok! A meal will set you back a fair bit even by Australian or US standards so is certainly expensive by Thai standards but we just went up for a couple of cocktails to take in the view in the Skybar. Drinks are on a par with pricing in the US and Australia ($10-$12 dollars for a cocktail).
The hotel is conveniently located and we had no trouble grabbing the Skytrain (around a 10 minute walk) to wherever we wanted to visit. Likewise the river is also a 10 minute walk so it is very simple to pick up a ferry at any time of the day to visit other areas.
We stayed at a variety of well known hotels in the 4 and 5 star category including the Meridien in Koh Samui and Meritus remains our favourite of the entire journey. I would recommend anyone visiting Bangkok to stay at this hotel. The Skybar alone is worth making the journey across Bangkok to see.
Great stay at the Meritus Suites
Although not benefiting from a river view as other reviewers had ( though still with a great view of the city ) the hotel was still amazing. We expected to walk into your average hotel room but it more ressembled a modern self contained flat with all the benefits of a luxury hotel ( if you like your chintz go elsewhere). Breakfast was very good with a wide range of European & Asian food to suit all tastes. The staff were all very friendly & helpful. I would recommend the cocktail bar ( Diesel )at the top of the hotel - the views are amazing though prices are more in line with Europe than Asia and it will substitute if you can't afford to eat in the Italian restaurant ( Sirrocco ) on the same floor ( some friends ate there - its expensive but they said the views & atmosphere make it worth it ).
Also nearby is the Blue Elephant Restaurant ( & cookery school) definately worth a visit ( even if just to see the old building in the middle of the skyscrapers) - the food was some of the best Thai food I have ever had.
Fabulous! Reluctant to leave!
We stayed at the Meritus Suites State Tower over the Vesak weekend and it was a wonderful experience.
The 2-bedroom suite which we took had ample space for 4-5 people and the facilities were excellent. An open-concept modern kitchen with thoughtful details to cutlery, china, utensils etc. Not that we needed to use it since food and in particular fantastic Thai food were easily available and just about everywhere including the Brasserie on the mezzanine floor.
A separate washer and dryer provided much needed DIY laundering after a hard day of braving the heat, dust and humidity of Bangkok's streets.
The beds were extremely comfortable and the lounge area was spacious. But what really made a stay at the Meritus Suites memorable was the view! Overlooking the Pattaya river and towering over the other surrounding developments with 68 floors, the State Tower offers a panaromic view of Bangkok.
Location-wise, it is within 5-7 minutes walking distance of the Saphan Taksin station and five stations away from the shopping hub of Siam Central station where Siam Square, MBK and Siam Discovery Centre are located. The only difficulty we encountered was that many taxi drivers were not familiar with State Tower. This problem is easily resolved when you show them the picture of the building on your key card or alternatively, mention Shangri-la as a landmark.
The service was impeccable and all in all, we had a fabulous stay. Will definitely stay again at the same hotel if we return to Bangkok.
PS: There is a Starbucks in the same building and that provides a much-needed pick-me-up in the afternoons!
I will go again!
I am giving this hotel a definite 5-star ! The superior room (spaceous!) we got is on 52nd floor, the view from our balcony facing the river side is just terrific! Despite the not so big lobby, concierge and reception, the concierge staffs are all very helpful. The outdoor swimming pool is in full operation, so besides swimming you could also enjoy having sun tan on the wooden chairs. The gym is pretty great, with sauna and steam rooms ( and there was only me everytime I went!) Too bad the reservation of the roof-top restaurant was full, but we went up and check out the place, the view is breath taking. They had a string band in the indoor restaurant and a jazz band playing in the outdoor, the atmosphere is really nice overthere.
If you don't mind the 5-8 min walk to BTS Saphan Taksin, it could take you to basically any major shopping areas, and also since it's the last station of that line, most likely you 'll be able to get a seat!
For the price of a 4-star hotel but getting a 5-star satisfaction, I'd like to recommend this hotel to anyone!
An Absolute-Must If Visiting Bangkok!!!!
My husband and I were travelling thru Asia and stayed here from Oct. 21-26, 2004 and it was a superb stay!!!! Definitely on par with the villa we stayed in while in Bali. The staff were extremely courteous and accomodating from the moment you step out the cab. When we checked in, we didn't think to ask for a room with a view but the young lady at the desk immediately offered and placed us in a room on the 58th floor facing the Chao Praya River. Let's just say we almost didn't feel the need to leave the spacious and luxurious room, not with the view we were privy to. Not only are the rooms humongous, but it had all the modern conveinences that stateside you would pay hundreds a night for. Two flat screen T.V.'s, microwave, stove, separate living room with T.V. and DVD player plus bathrobes and slippers...Even for the laundry they return your smallest articles folded and in a beautiful basket....We watched fireworks from our balcony while looking DOWNWARD towards the Shangri-La and Peninsula hotels, which were not close to being as luxurious (we walked through their lobbies and were not as impressed).. Please, this place without question was impeccable!!!!! Would definitely return!!!
Balcony with breadthtaking view
What a wonderful hotel it is. Spacious room, full kitchen facilities, large balcony with breathtaking view (even for superior one bed suite). All the rooms are above 45th floor with fascinating river view or city view. The complimentary breakfast buffet is good in terms of variety and environment. The traffic is easy as the skytrain station and the pier are within walking distance. The hotel is very close to the tollway and it takes only 25 minutes by taxi to the airport. Although the pools and some of the facilites are not ready yet, but still I highly recommend this hotel as the rate is value for money. (just US 100 per night)
Superb
The hotel is superb. Service is excellent. I rate it as a 6-star establishment. Thoroughly enjoyed my stay there. You must check out the restaurent/bar on the top floor. Open air, 67th floor, Bangkok below you... nothing gets better.
