After a final walk around Key West to some of the famous tourist spots - Hemingway's house, end of Hwy A1A, and a picture at the Southern Most point in the continental US (just 90 miles to Cuba), we hit the road north. A stop at Biscayne Bay NP was a nice stop, and again we seemed to have the park to ourselves. Today the car didn't leave the hotel parking lot! We found a nice hotel - The Southernmost Hotel - located at the end of Duvall and South Street. We decided to walk the 1.8 miles through town to get to the marina where the Yankee Freedom was waiting to take us the 70 miles to the most isolated National Park - Fort Jefferson within the Dry Tortugas NP. The boat ride was a little rough, but the $1 Dramamine they sold before the rise made it almost pleasant. ...

Florida, the Everglades, and Key West! It was an excellent day and it was almost surreal finally reaching Key West after all these days of driving and wonderful sights. First the Everglades. Not a swamp, but a very wide, slow moving river. Dropping about 14 feet over several 100 miles. It is the only place where both crocodiles and alligators live in the same environment. ...

... traveled about 3 hours until Ken needed to stop for gas. We got a snack at Wendy's (French fries) and headed on. In the meantime I had gotten the Good Sam’s Camping Book out and located our campground with a more detailed address. I put that in the GPS and we got the correct directions. I also put in the name of the campground and got the same directions so I knew we were good to go.
