... Royale service, and I couldn’t resist Champagne with black currant liqueur. I’ve never had one before. My choices were Lobster and Scallop Sausage with Root Vegetables and Citrus Sauce as an appetizer, Venison Saddle with Vegetables and Foie Gras Bread Pudding as a main, and Panna Cotta with Grapefruit Sections in Pink Grapefruit Soup for dessert.

Poughkeepsie was only about 20 minutes from the NY Thruway and I envisioned seeing my friends and reuniting with them, even if it was for only a few minutes. I knew it well as a kid because one of father's cousins we often visited lived in Gardiner in Ulster County on the west side of River while aunt and uncle and other cousin of his lived in Rhinebeck on the east side of the river north of Poughkeepsie. We passed between the two on the Mid-Hudson Bridge at Poughkeepsie often one summer when ...

... I have to make sure things are organized and clear so the day of the flight isn't a total trainwreck. During the program, I'm part chaperon, part teacher's aid and part person-that-gets-bossed-around.

The real serious preparation for China began on the 4th of July. I had to meet with the other interns before going off to China on the 12th so I decided to head back to NY (which is where China Institute is) on the 5th. Since it was ...
