Sunday 28 September Auckland S 36° 50.7' E 174° 46.0' Not late in the Dentarthurdent sense, of course, although Vogons have cropped up on the journey. Spent the early part of the day exploring the city and waterfront. Interesting but unspectacular museum. Didn't get my timing right on the tower. (I wanted to go to the high bit while the morning light was still good for photography, but there was a wedding on; maybe at sunset?) and I missed the Coromandel cruise by a few minutes. I was in good...
Auckland, North Island, New Zealand pete-rMonday 29 September Auckland Sky City After another scalding shower and moan at the hotel, I got to the Sky Tower early. The light was pretty good, and I took a couple of dozen photos from 186m and a few more from 220m. No-one "sky-walked" or "sky-jumped" while I was there, but an hour or so later I saw both occurring - I was on a hill a mile or so away; I think I got a distant photo of both events. That was during a walk around the inner suburbs and parts of the university. I didn't make it ...
Auckland, North Island, New Zealand pete-rTuesday 30 September Auckland Up betimes and off to McDonald's for breakfast (I'd paid for it at the hotel but fancied real coffee and hot food). Then grabbed a guide leaflet and set off on the "Coast to Coast" walk. Yes, I have crossed the entire continent of New Zealand, on foot, from sea to shining sea. (Harbour to lagoon, actually.) The route took me through familiar territory from earlier walks, to start with, but after the University I got into parkland at the Auckland Domain (missing t...

... haudoistakin nousi pahaenteistä savua! Hjumaleisson, siis kertakaikkiaan hiuksia nostattava näky, mutta kuvia en ottanut, koska nämä oli ihan oikeita hautoja eikä mitään turistinähtävyyksiä! Tulkaa itse tsekkaamaan.
Auckland, North Island, New Zealand travellerhans... auckland we headed up to the Bay of Islands on the kiwi bus, which was a beautiful group of islands, famous for the signing of the Maori english treaty which we found out about when we paddled a traditional Maori Waka (canoe) for the day with a local guide collecting our own green lipped mussels and cooking them on an open fire...delicious! We also had the opportunity of seeing a large pod of doplhins on a boat trip around the Islands. From here we ...
Auckland, North Island, New Zealand lauranmatt... even got to get out of the vehicle to feed the sheep. Then, we watched the sheepdog demonstration where the dog herded the sheep. After that, we watched a sheep being shorn and then saw a 100-year-old woolen mill that still works as well as the process of making wool for clothing. That concluded the tour, and we hopped back on the bus for about a 3 hour ride back to Auckland. It was an amazing day, and I am really glad I joined the tour.
Auckland, North Island, New Zealand erincastillo... and just relaxing. I said I wouldn't include too many photos - OK I lied! I think it's the best way to show you where we've been and what we've done! A wee story first though - on the first leg of our flight from Oz to NZ were were settled into our seats - middle section of the plane and another couple about our age sitting with us in the row of 4. We were delayed because a small child had taken ill and after a doctor on the flight looked at her it was decided that ...
Auckland, North Island, New Zealand tanmsblog... the time we get back legs are working better and have worked up an appetite for one of John's cooked breakfasts. First stop of the day was at Lake Matheson, just to the west of Fox. On a still day it gives beautiful reflections of the Southern Alps, a bit of a breeze today but still beautiful and managed to take some good photos of Tui collecting nectar from the flax on the edge of the lake. Continue back north up SH 6 to Franz Joseph to buy ...
