    ... Lots of blood was spilled on that beach though. There are two sculpture memorials there. I wondered if they allow sunbathing on the beach. If you didn,t know what happened I could easily see families out there enjoying themselves.

    The next sacred site was the American Cemetary. If you have been to Arlington Virginia or have seen Private Ryan, the rows and rows of white crosses is what you see. The monument I found the most moving ...

    ... and harrowing at the same time. Interestingly when buying our tickets the receptionist asked if we would sign a petition in favour of keeping the 'kissing sailor and nurse' statue at the entrance. Apparently they were under pressure from a feminist group who claimed that it was demeaning to women and should be removed. We signed. Heading for the early ferry from Caen to Portsmouth tomorrow and really looking forward to seeing the family again soon. First stop Exeter! ...

    We left San Saen with plenty of information from our host who gave us very good ideas about what to see and do on our travels . Our first stop was Dieppe , not the city or port fortunately because it is a really big place , but a chateau on a bluff overlooking the city a great view and we found it with little trouble!     ... rushed ....self imposed.....so punched in the first museum I saw in Caen into the gps...off I went....bada boom bada bing...I was at the Castle of Caen....k not a D-Day museum.....but was really cool....wandering around castles is fun. Hard to believe that this city was pulverized while being liberated.... and it wasn't really very far from the beaches but it took the Allies 6 weeks to get here...

    So off I went a wandering...inside the castle ...
