... for the rides. There were two awesome rollercoasters too. One was a huge oldschool wooden one, and that was nuts. It felt like it'd never stop, you get a really good ride out of it. My second favourite ride was an awesome modern rollercoaster, it had 2 loops, 2 sideways loop things and a double corkscrew. Really good stuff. I'd never been on a flying carpet ride thing either (like a swinging ship without the swinging, just ...
Paris, France travellingjon... without any rain gear. I ran down the cobblestone pathways still trying to find the exit when there it was, the gigantic bust of Balzac, famous French philosopher, staring at me. Sweet! I found one at last! Then I finally found the exit and dashed across the street to the entrance for Le Subway or like they call it in London "the tube". That's a whole other blog though...the subway and the gypsies who pee in it.
Paris, France randi.madden... the distance. The walk up the wide fine gravel path was funny, David quickly pointed out all the romance in the evening air of the city of L'Amour Toujours. Every second bench a couple going at it as though it was a contest. 1 is the loneliest number! = ( So we walked back to the Seine and across. Quite exhausted at this point and in need of some serious food. So feeling the Kebab desire we found a quaint little place maybe 3 m wide and 10 m deep and were ...
Paris, France much-eh... bike rental stations around the city. You pay a yearly membership fee to use bikes to get around the city. There is a rental fee for times over 30 minutes, but under that time is free. The program is immensely successful. We reconvene, with everyone arriving at the assigned meeting place on time. This makes me very happy! We walk up the Bvd St. Michel toward the Sorbonne and the Musée de Cluny. The Cluny is one of my favorite museums. It used to be a Roman bath ...
Paris, France bbulkYesterday was one of the more remarkable days I've ever had. Jan and I headed out to the flea market at Porte de Vanves - a seemingly endless stretch of tables on either side of a wide promenade. It was overwhelming - French antiques, junk, kitsch, all spread out on display. Old French movie posters and movies, silverware, glasses, lace and table linens...I found a few things, even haggled en Francais. Little dogs were ...
Paris, France nickyskubalMore party's and more sleeping in late. The area of the 10th arrondisement has never been what you would call upscale. It used to be the centre of the china and bisque ware industry but that died out and it always had the two large train stations. Plus in the 1600's it was the site of a new hospital to care for vitims of The Black Death. Not something that your local realtor is likely to offer as a selling point. And it also had the Canal St ...
Paris, France foolingreens... looking at very cool modern art and best of all they had really good explanations of the pictures so I actually understood some of it. Obviously this doesn't mean I liked all of it and Matt and I continued our somewhat heated debate on what is art! This is why we're travelling! The next day we left lovely Paris and headed off to Eurodisney where I'd insisted we go. It's not the best (that's Orlando!) but it was a lot of fun and despite nearly freezing ...
Paris, France mattandsasha... coming, or no souvenirs for you. Chances are you get none anyways, but without emails, there is zero chance at all. We are off to Geneva (SWITZERLAND, as Phil so aptly reminded the ticket lady) tomorrow. I couldn't bully Mitchell and Matt to go there, so I pushed Phil around instead. I'll keep you posted there. Oh, and if somebody sends this to my Grandma, or reads it to her, inform her that she paid for my oh so good hotel in Geneva. And then thank her ...
Paris, France ericvandyk... son while Barbara and Michael looked at the high class shops now taking up the ground floor of the old palace. We then moved on to the Louvre where we spent the rest of the day in to evening admiring the underground area created to provide conference and pedestrian facilities and ease of entry to the museum. Michael did his own thing while we saw Italian, French, Flemish and Dutch painting from around 1300s till late 1800s - hundreds of pictures and viewed the Mona Lisa on two ...
