... that seats 25,000 people. Mass was in progress so we stopped to watch and hear the beautiful singing. There is so much more to Lourdes, I would like to come again and spend a week seeing all the other sights and looking at museums and the huge castle that dominates the other end of the town. Back to camp. We returned for, again, a not very French meal before joining the candle light procession of the rosary. All around the ...

A long but interesting travel day. Took a long time to get out of Bilbao- it has Spain's longest tunnel, especially if you travel it twice! The Basque Country of Northern Spain is very different from Spain in general. Different language, darker complexions, and the houses are much more like what we have seen in Austria or Italy than in Spain. The country is hilly, richer, and greener. The coast along the Bay of Biscay very rugged with ...

Cindy was curious and did the submersion version which was quite ...

I haven't come this far to not get a better view of the Pyrenees Mountains which I see in great detail during each year's Tour de France. Lourdes rests at the base of this great mountain range. To get a 360 degree view I needed to reach the summit of Le Pic de Jer. The city bus transported me to the funicular which would then ascend the mountain. Now I've been on a few gondolas etc but this was unlike anything I'd seen before . . . just get ...

A Long Train Trip to Lourdes

Up at 5.00am, checked out and at the station by 7.00am. Departure for Lourdes at 8.28am and then a train trip that seemed to take longer than the already lengthy 6 hours. I managed to book the train, locate the departure details on the large board in departures and then finally get off at the correct station without a word of English or French.

Lourdes, a small town with a population of 14 000, must go close to doubling that ...
