And the journey continues. We're now in Phuket, Thailand’s largest island, and probably the most touristy one as well. Last summer I stayed on the island of Koh Samui so now I can check off another Thailand island. We arrived late last night due to a delay on our flight. I booked all of our flights in SE Asia through a budget airline, Air Asia, which I just learned has the nick name of "Air Delaysia." Oh well, they were cheap and we arrive alive. I guess we can’t ...

... much from the working class yet offers such poor services in return can surely expect social unrest. Small wonder then that the last government leader remains on the run accused of corruption whilst riots and sit-ins have bought Thailand to the attention of the worlds media in recent times.
I was glad to reciprocate the offering of the cd from 'Fern' with a thank you card containing a generous tip on our leaving.

We decided to stay in Patong for the ...

Phuket, Thailand lannyc... so we stayed for as long as we could, which was three hours thanks to a couple of Tiger beers and a Subway sandwich (we are not normally beach people). Had a dip in the pool on the way back to our terrace. Went back to Otop shopping area to the little bars, and then to the J-One restaurant that Dad recommended. You can indeed eat for NZ$5 but not in many places! Once again contemplated some late bars but coffee on the terrace won out.
Patong, Phuket, Thailand russdi... elephant and asked us if we wanted to drive. So Mitch jumped up on the elephants head/neck and started driving Michelle around. After a few snapshots, Michelle wanted to see how it felt to drive one of the largest land animals on the planet. Michelle even sat bareback on the elephant while Mitch sat in the back and our guide took photos from the ground! On the way back to the elephant ...
Phuket, Thailand carlost... sensational and was my 1st choice of accommodation). Back at the Patong Merlin's main entrance. Round up the troops and catch a taxi from the Hotel and head to Marina Phuket Resort in Karon for lunch. Mainly because I have rendezvous-ed with Elaine, Gwung and some friends. We're to wave into the Resort's webcam at 2pm and hopefully people logged on at 5pm in Sydney will see us waving! The taxi driver is attached to the Hotel and is a nice man called ...
Patong, Phuket, Thailand tric1003... which means it's very warm and very wet... :) In the islands, the weather is even more extreme, changing rapidly from partly cloudy to heavy rain and thunder storms. We actually find this whole setting very romantic and exciting, especially since there are so few people and we got the island and the hotel, almost, to ourselves. From here, after seeing Thailand's more appealing sides, we'll go back to the gray Bangkok to finish preparing our wedding clothing and than - back home!!!
Phuket, Phuket, Thailand noayaniv... overwhelming. James and I feel like being in NZ and Australia was a lot like going home in terms of the culture, food, etc., so arriving in Thailand was a new game for us. The differences in our cultures is often very obvious so I am hoping in the next couple of months to see if I can find ways in which we similar to the southeast asian people. I'm not sure what you know about Thailand, but we have been learning fast and thought I'd share with you some of the facts ...
Phuket, Thailand andersontravel... On more than one occasion I thought I was going to ruin my wet suit! Having both successfully completed the course we decided to sign up to the advanced course. The advanced allows us to dive 30m instead of the 18m the open water offers. We also decide to take the Nitrox course. Nitrox is a gas you breathe which has more oxygen content than the normal gas cylinders and allows you to stay underwater for longer without getting Nitrogen poising. This ...
