    ... Tyne. A "small world" moment.

    When ordering the wine, I did ask for "un demi", but, we received a full litre. Kathleen decreed we could not drink a litre of wine between us, at lunch time, and then cycle back along the canal, without serious risk of falling in. Solution, I emptied the water from my water bottle and filled it with half a litre of Rose, which we drank later, as we rode back to the van.

    ... we do not get a reduction in price, which, does not please Kathleen.

    But, we have a good view of the Basilica from our pitch, to compensate for the lack of electric hook-up.

    An evening stroll across the bridge, into Nevers, rounds off the day.

    Up and off on time. We road up and down a local road to warm up then we headed straight up to Sancerre, a hilltop, medieval village. It was 3kms up. I took it nice and steady and was able to achieve the climb without stopping or getting off.



    What a wonderful spot! Narrow little streets, a wee square with cafes, patisserie surronding it. We sat and had a coffee to let the rest ...

    ... taking the brunt of commerce, many canals are recreational havens. We saw quite a few boats making their leisurely way through the canals and their locks as we pedaled into the ever-present south wind. Riding those 46 miles was a long slog. Beautiful, with stone villages and the ever present churches, but still long, with the wind always pushing against us. We arrived in Montargis in the afternoon.
