The train trip to Zacopane was really beautiful and very interesting. We had extended stops at larger stations so the engine could be shunted to allow us to change direction and climb the steep and ever changing landscape.

Despite the warnings we'd received from others that ski season was over, we headed down to Zakpane to try for one last set of tracks. We got hammered with snow and it was probably some of the greatest skiing that year in Poland - hooray!
We hit the slopes off of Kasprowy Wierch one day and then out the door of our hotel the second day. Very different worlds...
Video from Saturday, July 4, 2009 in Zakopane at dinner. We were entertained by local highlanders who played and danced all night, and then made sure the members of our group tried to dance.
We visited the Wawel Royal Castle in Krakow. We took in the cathedral and the royal tombs. Many of the most historic Polish figures are buried here. Then caught bus to Zakopane. Beautiful trip up the mountains looking at snow capped Carpathian Mountains in the distance. Ben lost Wom on the bus and we had a major crisis in tracking down the bus driver and getting him back. ... 1 Canadian dollar, so they were less than $20!!! Lots of the stuff here is really cheap. I loved looking at all the sheep wool stuff, I even managed to pick up some wool so I can make my own socks, actually I probably got enough to make everyone socks!
