Today in Cairns we had another one of those bucket-list adventures--snorkeling on the Great Barrier Reef. What a trip! We went on a high speed catamaran, and it was a smooth ride. A rented lycra head-to-toe suits protected us against stingers, and we got briefings at the beginning of each of the three reef sites. We did not find Nemo, (clown fish are in deeper waters). However, we saw giant clam and such beauty on the corals and fist that it looked like "someone" had dabbed the critters in br...
Cairns, Queensland, Australia australblogWonderfull. A day cruise to the great barrier reef and a day trip to Kuranda. You must go there. And you must try the seabugs at the Raw Prawn Restaurant on the Esplanade. The totel is very good but not exactly in the center.
Cairns, Queensland, Australia axxxaaa2/19 we woke up and caught a plain to cairns, pronounced "cans". it was hot and humid, again we traded the crummy grey weather for nice blue sky and humidity that made you instantly sicky. the day was spent exploring the city. it was very small but had a ton of tasty restaraunts to eat at. when we got in henry surprised us and told us that the school would be paying for a trip to the great barrier reef. we are all so excited that the night was quite for once and we slept. 2/20 everyone is sto...
cairns, Queensland, Australia kaarifirorAir travel in Australia is sort of like magic. Every time we get out of the plane we're in a completely different environment. Ayers Rock Airport was hot, dry and arid, and Cairns (pronounced "cans") was hot, humid, and tropical. Just about the time our bodies adjust to one type of weather, we switch to something new. Cairns is our longest single stay in an area - four nights. We landed on Tuesday, 7 October, around 3 PM local, and headed straight to our hotel, with a little side tour of the ...

... s, sleeping tree kangaroo, sunning snakes and playing platypus all in one day! We got back to Cairns for one last evening and enjoyed apps and drinks with Cherene and our Brit friends. We'd had a blast that week, but it was time to pack up as Melissa departed at 6 a.m. and I needed a day to get organized for the last leg of my journey - Thailand and meeting up with Eric for the first time in 2 months. Next entry from Bangkok, or some exotic Thai island with Eric! Cheers!Stephanie
Cairns, Queensland, Australia slpbls... is to spend one more night here then start making our way back to Brisbane with a lot of detours to hit the best parks on the sunshine coast. I'm pumped but we are finding it a little hard to deal with Jesse's eager beaver buddy, he is very keen and highstrung and we are all getting a little tired of him. Oh well he has the car and atleast I dont have to drive. Oh yeah I also ate shark the other day.
Cairns, Queensland, Australia heavyt... thing. We only stayed for one drink and then headed back to the hostel as we were all a bit knackered. When we got back to the room Hayley and the Ozzy guy in one of the other bunks were both already asleep so we had to creep around using a torch rather then putting the lights on. Flo had wanted to pack her sucksack for the morning but it was a bit hard in the dark so ended up just having a shower and leaving it to sort out in the morning.
