Queensland, beautifull one day ....

underwater wonderland

Today in Cairns we had another one of those bucket-list adventures--snorkeling on the Great Barrier Reef. What a trip! We went on a high speed catamaran, and it was a smooth ride. A rented lycra head-to-toe suits protected us against stingers, and we got briefings at the beginning of each of the three reef sites. We did not find Nemo, (clown fish are in deeper waters). However, we saw giant clam and such beauty on the corals and fist that it looked like "someone" had dabbed the critters in br...

Great barrier reef

Wonderfull. A day cruise to the great barrier reef and a day trip to Kuranda. You must go there. And you must try the seabugs at the Raw Prawn Restaurant on the Esplanade. The totel is very good but not exactly in the center.

great barrier reef and rainforests

2/19 we woke up and caught a plain to cairns, pronounced "cans". it was hot and humid, again we traded the crummy grey weather for nice blue sky and humidity that made you instantly sicky. the day was spent exploring the city. it was very small but had a ton of tasty restaraunts to eat at. when we got in henry surprised us and told us that the school would be paying for a trip to the great barrier reef. we are all so excited that the night was quite for once and we slept. 2/20 everyone is sto...

Tropical Cairns

Air travel in Australia is sort of like magic. Every time we get out of the plane we're in a completely different environment. Ayers Rock Airport was hot, dry and arid, and Cairns (pronounced "cans") was hot, humid, and tropical. Just about the time our bodies adjust to one type of weather, we switch to something new. Cairns is our longest single stay in an area - four nights. We landed on Tuesday, 7 October, around 3 PM local, and headed straight to our hotel, with a little side tour of the ...

Its already been two weeks!

Hello all, I know that it has been a long time before I made this posting but we are too busy enjoying ourselves. The postings will be a collection of jottings that I made when I could find some time - it is presented as a loose diary. I hope that you will find some of it interesting....... Monday 11 February 2008 - 18:48 Location: Miramar Hotel, Singaore All travel arrangements were faultless - got the hotel at about 19:30 yesterday. Decided not to venture out but to have a meal and drink in...

Uncle Brian's Tablelands Tour

... no matter where they were from. American music is a universal constant across the globe. We got a great informative trek through the rainforest by Cousin Kai. Learned not to touch anything in the forest as tons of the plants and animals are very poisonous, deadly or will take you out for a few months. Australia has got to be the worst for dangerous plants and animals either in the water or land. After the rainforest with huge ...

To live aboard or not to live aboard?

... get out to these exposed reefs for many weeks due to bad weather and visibility. The boat was called TUSA and it is a large Cat, which takes snorkelers and divers on day trips. The skipper was a South African and ran a good crew. We had a 3 lovely dives and a good day out. Spent our last day walking the promenade and visiting the botanical gardens.

Sand, sea and rainforest all rolled into one

... was spent booking a large chunk of the trip down the east coast. From talking to people we learned that if you booked a few things in one that you would save quite a bit of money and so armed with that set off for a recommended travel agent and emptied our wallets. On the plus side we did save a few hundred dollars at least and peace of mind now that we knew what we were doing and that there was places on them for us as many tours were booking out. Also ...
