Friendly welcome and service from Italian lady at reception, we were allowed to check in a bit earlier than expected and bags were delivered to our room which had a harbour view and was large with a nice, big bed and comfy pillows. Curtains did a good job of blocking the light and it wasn't too noisy at night (Thursday). Shower head was low, and room (especially bathroom) was a bit tired, but at the promotional rates they offer and with free wifi it was well worth it. We also got a free drink in the upstairs bar which is a nice space, but way too cold in July. Why they need air con on is beyond me, when it is minus two outside!! We were on honeymoon, so maybe some of these extras were due to that, but unsure.

Location brilliant, quick walk from airport bus drop off, and very close to Brittomart station for Nakedbus to Rotorua. McDonalds for cheap breakfast just round the corner. Backpacker bars very close in one direction and posh bars in another. Ferry terminal one block away.

Recommended if you can get a good deal.

Good size room clean, centrally located right next to the city's major transport hub making it easy to get around. Restaurant provided great views of the city and habor which was agreat place to enjoy breakfast.

Accurate as per details on website.
Good central location for rail, bus and ferry terminals. Room was clean and quiet. I would suggest that free wifi time is increased to an hour in 24hours.

The hotel was in a great location for me. We had caught the Sky Bus from Auckland Airport and it was just a matter of getting off the bus and walking across the road to The Mercure Auckland. The hotel is within walking distance of the harbour so it was easy enough to wheel our luggage down to the Ship.

    Kiwi cold

A travel blog entry by mothman on Jul 09, 2015

Arrived mid morning after overnight flight, took airport bus to centre of town, then left bags at hotel, took ferry to Devonport, wakled through village, up a hill for some great views across to Auckland CBD. Also saw a few cannon things and some fake mushrooms. Ferry back to centre, dinner in a foodcourt which was cold; in fact most of our time in …

This morning we travelled through the lush Waikato farmland to Waitomo Caves. Saw the amazing underground Glow Worm Grotto by boat and walked through the limestone caves. Later we followed the Waikato River, New Zealand’s longest river, into Auckland. Enjoyed views from Mt. Eden before continuing to hotel …

Short stay left me wanting more, I'm really hoping to get back to Auckland soon and so I can get to see more of the country. The next trip is going to have to be longer because the couple of days left me wanting more.

Already planning the next trip, 2017, but hoping for it to be sooner.

As we have had overnight rain and today is raining intermittently the waterfalls are well charged and plentiful, it is understood there are over 400 waterfalls on Doubtful.
