    ... days, so need to plan accordingly. Also fewer bus services than expected so getting to the Valle de Vinheiros and visiting any vineyards is seeming too hard! Getting to the coast seems impossible to do at any useful hour without backtracking to Porto Alegre – agh!

    Time to sample one of the better common brews here, the Bohemia, a pilsen, and chill for the night – too late to head back to Gramado for tonight’s events and no fun in this weather ...

    ... around. I took off my shoes and soaked my feet for a bit. Then we carried on to another cute little spot where the river was wide but shallow and we ignored the no access signs to see how far across we could get. We got about half way before it got too slippery and too cold. There were several pretty little spots along the trail where we paused and also a little information centre. Obviously we couldn't understand most of the information as it was in portuguese! But ...

    What makes Gramado interesting is that it is a German town. Walking down the main street felt like we were in the middle of Europe. It was a very well off town where rich people spent their weekends. It really did not feel like we were in Brazil.

    We stayed in quite a nice hotel called Pousada Sonho Meu (which means Hotel My Dream), where we got a three person room (but could easily sleep 5, and Gen was ecstatic to have her own bathroom again. It was pretty cold (the coldest place weŽd been so far... they had had snow a couple of days before), but our hotel had heating so we were just able to survive.

    ... much damage. It must have been the previous owner of the car as I believe Clarice or I would have smelled it if we would have burned that much rubber! Anyway, we stuck around the shop until 6:00 when he was all finished. Other customers came and went and one local guy brought his truck shortly after we got started on our car. He was waiting on "our"mechanic and he said he will wait around all day if needed, but he only lets this man touch his vehicle.
