    Arriving at Allevard, I was delighted to meet Christian and Suzanne, friends of Liz and owners of the Tour du Treuil.     ... way she was going to make it. We told her to speak to the Guard as apparently the train company in Italy will take care of hotels etc if you miss connections. The American traveller confirmed this with us as this had been the case for the last week as she'd missed every connection. We told her we knew the feeling.....eventually we rolled into Milan.....early evening is a good time to roll into Milan. We like Milan.

    ... breathtaking views we had seen on the entire hike.

    Barbara was excited to finally be in Italy. But she never dreamed she would walk to Italy! The downhill to Refugio Elisabetta was pretty easy and through yet another gorgeous valley. We arrived mid-afternoon. The name of the place made me think of my mother a bit. Wish she was here.

    The next morning, the weather still being very good, we opted to take the high mountain trail to our next stop. And high it was, crossing a snow bank at one point on this sunny Sept 4th.

    After about 7 hours total hiking we reached Refuge de Croix de Bonhomme. Although the setting was stunning, this would turn out to be our least favorite refuge of the whole trip.
