Woke up to another beautiful day. Hotel Pavillon had been excellent and a great place to relax for the night. Dinner was a 5 course meal with great wine to celebrate harriet's birthday. See the picture from our room window. It is going to be very difficult leaving here to get on the path again. Such a quaint and modern town. Next stop Lavachey, still in Italy but just a small hamlet. -- ...

... meandering north through France over the next 3 weeks. So,.. up the Autostrada it was,. headed for Turin. We made excellent time and realised that we could comfortably get to the Tunnel of Frejus today,.. and start our 'French Meander' a day or two earlier. The campsite (right in the centre of the ...

... we continued on our upward journey, climbing up a path following a riverbed. This was the major climb of the day. We finally reached the top (4000 feet up from our start). Pretty windy and cold and we took a short break in the hut on top specially built for that purpose. We have been extremely lucky with the weather, mostly sunny with periods of cloud, but no rain to speak of. Continuing on our journey, we traversed the mountain staying pretty flat with the odd up and down, ...

... no surprise, we started going downhill but it was less steep and longer than before. After around an hour we reached Les Contamimes, a village. Our hotel is les Christiana and it makes us miss our hotel last night, the washrooms are smelly and small but it's only for 1 night. We will all sleep well tonight - Tali We are all exhausted , so early night as we have the longest day and highest ascent (4000 ft) ...

    Our first wedding anniversary!

It's been a wet start and finish to our first wedding anniversary today. Best intentions for an early start we're delayed by heavy rain this morning, but we made the first 50km before lunch in great time and had a big lunch outside the supermarket in Saint Michel de Maurienne. We then climbed Col du Telegraphe and the rain started again just as we arrived into camp in Valoire. Currently tucked in our tent, enjoying looking through the photos so far while the rain continues ...
