The room in the hotel was clean, spacious and very comfortable. I didn't like the glass door to the bathroom...don't know why they didn't use a wooden door. The hotel was very close to the main shopping area, and close to the Cathedral. The Light Show was on over the Cathedral the night I stayed in the hotel. This was an amazing experience. In fact, I would regard the Light Show as one of the highlights of my 7 week European holiday. I couldn't understand the commentary as it was in French, but it was so worthwhile watching.

We farewell our gracious hostess in Les Andelys this morning. She has provided us with a lovely room decorated in French provincial style and substantial breakfasts for the past three nights. Before breakfast ends however, we meet an older English gentleman and his young Chinese wife.

He enters the room looking every part the UK's version …

We left this morning at 9.30 am after a lovely breakfast (which for John included bacon & eggs). The weather was cool all day today but we only had mizzle for the first hour. After breakfast, we walked up to the Cathedral for a look inside. As I said it is the largest Gothic Cathedral in the World. Our first stop was at a cemetery where Bluey's …

... again. Glad I get to have the time off but bummed I won’t be with my family. I like Thanksgiving and Christmas. It’s interesting because yesterday and today I noticed that both Paris and Amiens already had lights up for Christmas. There are advertisements for special Christmas cruises and dinners too. It took me a bit to realize that they don’t have anything other holiday to point to between now and then so it kinda makes sense that stuff ...

... day for the British army. At the end of the day 60,000 soldiers had been made casualties. The Thiepval Memorial is the largest British war memorial in the world. It commemorates 72205 men from  British and South Africans armies who were declared missing in the Somme between 1915- 1918.  We visited the the Canadian memorial at Beaumont, the South African memorial at Longueval and the Australian memorial at Pozieres.
