The room in the hotel was clean, spacious and very comfortable. I didn't like the glass door to the bathroom...don't know why they didn't use a wooden door. The hotel was very close to the main shopping area, and close to the Cathedral. The Light Show was on over the Cathedral the night I stayed in the hotel. This was an amazing experience. In fact, I would regard the Light Show as one of the highlights of my 7 week European holiday. I couldn't understand the commentary as it was in French, but it was so worthwhile watching.

Left the hotel at 6am after another lovely breakfast at la Bouliniere. Drove to Brussels to drop off car. Took about 2 hours including stop for fuel - 71 Euros of diesel. We were to catch the train at 9.15am to Lille Europe. Train eventually left at 10.40am. No way we were going to make our 11.02am connection to Amien. Luckily train had wifi so I …

Onto Newfoundland Park, the Memorial to the 600 of 800 Newfoundland soldiers ( part of Canada, sort of ) who died in the first assault trying to run across open ground towards German machine guns. About 400 yards... They fought over it for 5 months. Thousands died. After the war, the Chaplain of the Newfoundland Brigade came back to France and bought this land. It is the only area that has the trenches in the original state. Bearing in mind 100 years of erosion ...

As we peered out into the courtyard, French children were playing, laughing and at peace. Written in large green and gold bold letters on the shed above them was: Do Not Forget Australia. I'm sure that the children in this beautiful French school haven't forgotten the ...

The goal was to get another raiding party into the German Naval HQ building to ransack it and get the Enigma machine and code books.....this is what the Germans used to transmit messages encrypted....and was almost impossible to break the code.  Well sadly the mission was not a huge success....and they let it look like a massive blunder by Mountbatten in order to ...
