The Somme & Ypres Salient Battlefields

A travel blog entry by shirleybailey

Tom from Operation Europe (a supplier we use for our Western Front battlefield tours) picked me up from my Paris hotel at 9.30am and we headed north for three full days touring sites from Amiens in France to Ypres in Belgium. I thought I understood a reasonable amount about the Western front sites from the research I had done for groups I have …

The WWI Battlefields

A travel blog entry by lenorejb

On Monday 27 August, Annette and l caught a train from Paris to Amiens, which took about 1 hour and 15 minutes. We were both impressed with the appearance and feel of Amiens. It was busy, being holiday time still, but we enjoyed walking along the shopping streets. That evening we watched a beautiful and inspiring light and colour shown on the …

Champagne Showers (Amiens)

A travel blog entry by karawilson

My first glances of Amiens were ones of wonderment and awe. Not for it’s spectacular beauty or it’s charming personality but for how the people were dressed around me. I was almost ashamed to get out of the car in my T-shirt and blue trousers. I was afraid the beautifully dressed French were going to put me in a quaint town circle and …

Under the Tuscan Sun

A travel blog entry by nicolerpierce

I swear we are stay at a Bed and Breakfast right out of the movie, Under the Tuscan Sun. There is nothing quite as beautiful as this place. I can see why people fall in love with small villages and the people in this area. Paris has a very big city, small spaces, no room, people in a hurry feel. In Bayeux and the surrounding cities the pace is slower, the people are nicer, and it ...

A travel blog entry by buckgw

... ages last time to find a good breakfast, easy this time
- Things on the road / in the car like....camion (trucks), bouchon (traffic jam), heated leather seats (great after walking in the cold), diesel is much cheaper off the major roads...
- Sandy's French and how much it helps. In the hotel we are staying at in Albert, the owner (Jean Luc) has been very friendly and helpful to us....but the English couple staying here said he had been abrupt...and he ...

The room in the hotel was clean, spacious and very comfortable. I didn't like the glass door to the bathroom...don't know why they didn't use a wooden door. The hotel was very close to the main shopping area, and close to the Cathedral. The Light Show was on over the Cathedral the night I stayed in the hotel. This was an amazing experience. In fact, I would regard the Light Show as one of the highlights of my 7 week European holiday. I couldn't understand the commentary as it was in French, but it was so worthwhile watching.
