Monday morning dawns clear and sunny, and we set off for Charlesville de Meziers.

Apart from some heavy traffic, on the outskirts of Lille, a completely uneventful drive.

The Aire at Charlesville de Meziers is full, so, we have to use the adjacent campsite (Camping Mount Olympus ).

We had our tea and then John even had breakfast in bed of bacon butties (yes we can find streaky bacon here).

Once up John wanted to try the suggested remedies and re check his own work but it lead to nothing. At 11 he went down to see the man from the small boat hire (he found out his name is Luke) his mechanic friend is away for this holiday weekend (at the coast) but ...

... the Citadel which we thought was very good value and you could either walk up the 400 steps or cable car. We went up in the cable car 100 metres straight up with quite spectacular views over the town and river both north and south. The rain slowed right up to a stop once inside the Citadel grounds. We joined a tour that was about to start with a guide who said there were notices in all the places in English but he would only be talking ...
