Historical Traveler Reviews of Mercure Budapest Korona
Superb hotel

The hotel is very nice, clean and modern with friendly/helpful staff. Although on a main road, it has extremely good soundproofing and no noise can be heard. Our room was very modern with a large double bed, desk, chair and TV. The bathroom had a lovely shower and was kept extremely clean by the cleaners. The room was very cosy with soft lighting and nicely heated. There was one small wardrobe and 6 sets of shelves - plenty of space for a short trip. A free number-coded safe was also located in the wardrobe. 24 hour room service was available and the service was very good. The bar & restaurant overlook the street which makes interesting viewing. It's in a great location for getting around. The Metro line and trams run from outside the hotel (2 stops away from the meeting point of all 3 Metro lines). The Danube is only a 10 min walk, where you can catch a tram to the Castle Hill District & Parliament. The National Museum is across the street. On your departure, the hotel can organise a mini-bus to take you to the airport and also a locked luggage room to store your cases. I cannot fault this hotel and would not hesitate to go back.

Warped Windows
from sobakasu
Stayed in a 7th floor double room for two days in September. Access to the room was slightly complicated: elevator to third floor, cross the bridge to the other wing and another elevator to the 7th. The elevators did not always work, nor did there seem enough to deal with 400 rooms.
The bedroom itself was smallish and cheerless but clean. Noise was efficiently blocked through double windows but as they were warped, they could not be opened properly.
Breakfast was fine and the service I encountered was friendly. The location is very good.
This remains very much a chain hotel suited for short stays and tourist group travel. I was there on business but would not return for a personal stay.
Great Location, Great Hotel, Great Price

The Mercure hotel is ideally located in central Pest. The hotel is within walking distance to many tourist sites as well as the Vaci pedistrian shopping street. The hotel has received some interior renovations, most of the furniture and walls seemed new. The room rate we paid was half of what the other downtown hotels were quoting.
A good base for sightseeing

We stayed at the Korona 18-20th March having booked a 'superior' room ie with a double bed. The special internet rate worked out at 50 pounds a night which is quite reasonable for a centrally located hotel. The hotel is right by the Kalvin Ter metro station, and you can walk to the Vaci Utca / Market Hall / Museum within 5 minutes or so. As we arrived early 1230 ish we were given our room with twin beds, not the double I'd asked for, nice balcony though. After querying the room I was told to come back later after seeing the city. We were then allocated a double room, as I'd payed extra for this, but the woman wasn't too thrilled to give us this room ( even though we had just left our bags in the original room) quoting the cleaning of the room would be required. The rooms have a safe to store your own valuables, which is a nice touch. The free pool and sauna were refreshing after a days walking, but the pool is lounging not swimming - about 20ft long. To use the lockers by the pool you need a 20HUF coin, and you can get towels by the pool. There were the restaurants/ bars etc , but we eat out in a greek 'Pireaus?' opposite the market and an italian around the corner from there on the river. There is a small supermarket on the way to and underneath the Market Hall. We bought a few small items for breakfast as we thought the 17 Euro per person for breakfast a bit steep. The reception staff were generally very helpful. The only quibble was the lack of tea/coffee making facilities in the room.

Best concergie service I have encountered, couldn't have been more helpful. Spent 5 days in the Mercure Korona, great location, metro, buses and trams on the doorstep of the hotel. Breakfast very good, rooms a little on the small size but clean and confortable.

We stayed in a twin room at this excellent hotel. The hotel is in a handy position near the Metro line M3 Kalvin ter station. The room was average size with limited storage space, but had a free safe.
There was a very handy swimming pool and sauna which we enjoyed using after sight-seeing. The breakfast buffet contained a large number of hot and cold items. It was served in a very attractive room. We booked through hotelkey.
Quite nice

This hotel was clean and modern. The restaurant was very good and it's not in the most expensive area of Pest so the restaurants in the area are a bit cheaper, but still delicious. It is a short walk across the Green Bridge to the very fancy Hotel Gellert where you can see the famous baths and have a fantastic meal. There is a subway stop very close by. The hotel is also close enough to walk to the Vaci Utca is you want to do some shopping. (If you're going to buy crystal, go to Renata Art Crystal on Vaci Utca) The Market Hall is also very close.
Mercure Korona worked for us

The Mercure Korona was a adequate hotel for us during our first visit to Budapest. Its location in Pest was close enough to pedestrian sites, the market, the bridges and the river for nice walking. It is also right on a metro line. Our room was small - but clean and well cared for. The concierge desk was extremely helpful and able to get us tickets for major concerts (not the tourist shows). The hotel tapas bar and restaurant were more than adequate when we wanted something quick to eat. One major criticism is that the buffet breakfast was about $20 apiece, with no "continental" alternative.
