That is very true, the smell of strong garlic is still all pervading but sacre blue even worse to Madame's horror the dish also included salted cod and snails.     On the 1st January, we left Italy for the French country side. It was our longest drive of about 500km. The scenery was beautiful with snow covered fields and small towns. We drove through the Mont Blanc tunnel which is 12km long through the mountains. We arrived late in the afternoon with the two satellite navigation systems taking us different routes - one along a rode and the other on a mud track.     The other side, we settled into the 430 mile journey south via Dijon to Macon. We had only picked the town because it had a hotel and Buffalo Grill in close proximity to each other and the motorway. The Ibis Budget hotel was just as expected – clean and boring however the meal was

    ... We then walked into the town centre about a kilometre and visited the Notre Dame Cathedral in the centre of the town. The town is very quiet. on Sunday everything is closed, I mean everything even the Tourist Office. We then walked back to our hotel.
