Since we arrived in Trieste in July we have had barely two consecutive days without rain, often of biblical proportions. In pelting rain on a flooded campsite we review our travel plans this morning, abandon all thoughts of northern Germany and Holland and head south west into France. ... and knowing there was a short section off the canal we had stopped to check our map. No sooner had we stopped than two riders appeared in matching outfits and bikes who turned out to be employed by the local Jura tourism agency to assist riders like us who needed route assistance - what perfect timing! They pulled out various maps from their bags, showed us where we needed to go and escorted us around the deviation and back to the canal track. We came across them later on. ...
