We stayed at the Mercure hotel. We started our trip nice and early, I woke up at 6:25am to have a shower. We caught a Taxi to the port then caught a ferry to Batam (it only took 40 minutes to go to an Indonesian island from Singapore on a boat). When we got to Batam we got on our tour bus and got taken to some of the attractions. After we had done …
Arrived in Batam and checked into the hotel. Then went for a local lunch. Dinner at the Seafront in Batam. Then the next morning went to the Thirupurasundari Temple in Batam to visit the temple again. Then to the ferry terminal to head to Belakang Padang Island.
... one insisted ferrys all canceled due to flying being so much cheaper. So in the end I flew. Which didn't get me all the tropical island views and small town stops that I really thought would be ideal holiday time.
Pekanbaru? Think industrial, dusty, dirty and shockingly hot.

This is wear we stayed the night and had a nice very yummy dinner and a buffet breakfast.
