Baden - Day 47

A travel blog entry by kerrycrosbie

... here - just relax really - and that's another reason we chose this Zimmer, it has a garden for us to do just that. Beethoven loved to come to Baden, apparently, and there is a house here (now a museum) where he wrote his Symphony No. 9. We may check that out tomorrow too. Austrians are mad about their classical music. Even this small town has it's own Opera House! We left our meagre belongings at the zimmer and went to explore the town ...

... vendors became mostly that of goods and trinkety things. One travel guide we read described it as what you might find in a Nepalese market. We turned around and headed back to the food (of course) and picked up some hummus, a bag of mixed olives and some Viennese rolls in preparation for a picnic at the palace! Exhausted and sore, we went back to the RV to relax and get ready to leave for Budapest the next day!

We flew out of Melbourne at 11pm on Qatar airlines. It was a long 14 hours in the air, a two hour stopover at Dohar, we continued on to Vienna, arriving at our hotel quite exhausted at ...

First District Tour and Vienna Symphony

... which is the Imperial Court Theatre and is Austria's national theater. Across the street is City Hall. We walked through the most beautiful garden I think I have ever seen. The entire place is a rose garden, and all the flowers are perfectly in bloom. We then viewed the Hofburg (Imperial) Palace. The entire thing is beautiful! Each ruler has had their own wing, so there are many additions that are prime examples of the architectureof the time. ...
