      ... In the middle, between the homes there is a beautiful outdoor garden and restaurant. According to the plaque in my room, the canal house that my room occupies was built in the 1600s. My room is very nice also – huge with a fireplace and a outdoor patio that faces the restaurant. They can even serve me lunch and drinks from my patio (cheaper than paying for room service).

      Late in the morning Carla and Marcel took us for a drive to see their boat. Marcel had been working to replace rotten boards which was interesting to see.       ... a ferry ride to Marken where we were in for another treat.....we learned how wooden shoes were made. How can you go wrong with shoes?? It was fun to see how they make the wooden shoes....mostly with machines, but some of it is still done by hand as well. Once we finished watching the demonstration, we got to try on the wooden shoes.
