Lokal Weinachten

Firstly I'd like to wish you all a Merry Christmas / Fröhe Weinachten. I hope that your Christmas Eve or Christmas Day celebrations have been filled with family and fun. I hear that in Perth it is to be 45 degrees! Don't die on us; your temperature is the opposite of our -2 here in Salzburg. Crazy! The dramatic site on which Salzburg has been constructed was not apparent to us until we once again walked through the city in the daylight. The central area, the Altstadt is walled in by 3 peaks a...

Fare's Fair

I left you readers on the cliffhanger of Mum and Dad wondering off alone on the trolleybus to the Laundromat on Christmas Day morning. I can report that they both made it back alive, although they did catch a taxi back to the hotel, claiming that the trolleybus was not due for 31 minutes when they checked at the station. When they made it back to the rooms and offloaded the washed clothing we decided that we would capitalize on the trolleybus success by traveling into the station once again t...

King Size Bed + 4 Pillows = Happy Lolly

Austria still continues to impress. I arrived in Salzburg yesterday after a longer than expected train ride from Innsbruck. Part of the tracks were closed, so we arrived 90 minutes later. It was a beautiful train ride, so i didn't mind!

The joys of Eurail travel - When you are over the age of 26, you have to buy a first class rail pass. What happened to discounts for when you get older!? In my trip so far, I have not taken ...

Sound of Music, Eagles Nest and long bus rides

... kitchen and being able to relax. As the weather had cleared up we were able to enjoy the view from our back window as well.

Day 3 – Saturday 19th September – We were up at the crack of dawn to pack, have breakfast and be ready to go for our pick up at 8:15am. Our breakfast at this place was really good and we really appreciated a hearty start to the day. I just hope my jeans still fit at the end of our trip!

Our pick up bus dropped us at the meeting ...

The hills are alive, with the sound of Danny

... is where the sound of music took place. So we started walking, showing off our Canada flags which in my mind would prevent us from getting mugged. I don't think we were in a bad area but I don't think I would have had a problem getting crack, if I wanted it, if you get what I'm saying. So after about 20 min of walking and reading our guide book by street light trying to figure out where exactly we are. We seen 4 ...

PS: In case we forgot to mention this earlier, our son Keith and Mike's mother, Peggy joined us on this trip. They are the two goofy characters posing in front of the Spielzeug Museum.

Salzburg and Innsbruck

... the McDonalds and ended up sitting inside for a couple of hours looking up campsites, routes, ferries, etc. We got a few strange looks from the staff but at least we were able to use it for free! It was lunchtime by then so we made a couple of sandwiches and headed into Innsbruck-we managed to find a great parking space right near the old town. The colored houses and buildings along the river were really amazing and the town itself ...

Austria, oh Austria!!

... the sound of music was filmed. Salzburg was also Mozart's boyhood home, and there are plenty of monuments and cafes to remind you of it!!
I saw the most beautiful graveyard at an abbey right by the Salzburg castle. I've never seen such well tended graves!! Austria has delicious breads, that are a little salty and scrumptious food. I had a traditional pumpkin soup and a ...

Romantic Salzburg

I absolutely love Salzburg! The time Bekah and I spent here was amazing! We arrived at about 2:15pm Thursday afternoon and we went to the information booth at the hauptbahnhof to get a Salzburg Card right away. We had read about it online the night before and we are so glad we got it! It cost 32€ for 48 hours and you get free transportation around Salzburg, free entrance to nearly every Salzburg attraction, and ...

My day in Salzburg

... a broken thumb and everyone was coming and asking him about it. He was a break-dancer and during practice he had broken his thumb. Ironical J!! He told me that there is a International Break-dancing competition in Salzburg on Saturday the 27th and around 7-8 teams from different countries are here in the hostel. He was really bumped as because of his injury he will not be able to dance in the competition. After having my breakfast I went to rent a bike only to realize it ...
