Day 32
... usual Ryanair queues but we were thru in a heartbeat. Nice airport Dublin. Sat down and had my last Guinness on Irish soil and landed back in Bristol at 17:30. Josh had found a new route home to avoid the traffic. All thru nice countryside, however with rural roads and no traffic he decided that he could drive his mums Mercedes coupe as if he was Michael Schumaker. There was only about 1 inch on my side to the hedge every time a car came ...

So after talking about it for 3 years, changing the plans a million times, working really ****** jobs, searching for a campervan, panicking about not having enough money, moving back home, booking flights months ago, trying to plan a route that doesn't involve us zigzagging across the whole of the states – HERE IT ...
All's Well that ends Well.
... the car park and where it simply became mud. No surf here today. We had a walk along the pier which ahead amusement rides, a casino and the obligatory ice cream shop. We also visited Glastonbury which was just 11 miles from Wells. This is the home of the legendary music festival and is still home to lots of alternative folk and their shops filled with hippie stuff. Stonehenge was on my list so we jumped in the car and took ...
More Adventures!
... before it got too hot. A wall of heat greeted us in the very muggy giant glasshouse. We enjoyed seeing so many big tropical plants but we were very pleased to get out into the cooler air of the Mediterranean Biome. We enjoyed watching the bakers in the big kitchen and spotting the NZ plants in the prehistoric gardens! We then headed down to the old fishing port of Fowey to take the 30 minute ferry trip to Mevagissey. Alas the weather had changed and it was very cold on board ...
Castles, Haggis and Rugby, aye
Postcards are very deceptive things, not always including the most accurate depiction of famous sites of the world. Travelling in winter this becomes increasingly obvious. Trying to pick out a postcard that actually shows what we have seen is quite difficult. Apparently sunny skies are much more appropriate to send home to loved ones than grey clouds are. Throughout our trip we've seen places that don’t quite meet our postcard expectations as well as those which far exceed ...

Beautiful
My husband and I have just got back from a lovely weekend at Barony Castle. The staff are lovely and the welcome drink on arrival gets your stay off to a good start.
The grounds are beautiful, we both had fun playing on the rope course. I would definatley recomend a stay in this lovely castle to anyone. My only regret is that we didn't stay longer.
Welcome Drink on Arival
My husband is slightly disabled and we were told to park at the front door and someone would move the car to a better parkin g space when the car park was less busy.
On entrering we were warmly welcomed and offered a sherry or a malt. I think it was Joshua who then whisked us up to a beautiful room , although a bit small on the 3rd floor.
There was a wedding taking place but we were made so welcome by all the employees of the hotel, it realy made our day.
My husband has booked again for our 50th Wedding anniversary and we were told that we have been upgraded to a honymoon suite with the compliments of the Manager.
I can not thank you enough for making a very old lady feel so special and this is what the hospitality industry has lost but I think you have found.

Barony was great
Stayed at the Barony for one night while visiting the bike show, only wish it could have been longer. The staff were excellent as were the room and the food. A great place to stay in a lovely location. We will be returning. Oh, and biker friendly.
Great weekend chill out hotel!
can only agree with what has been said before hotel and food wonderful, except leisure center where spa bath is cold as is joined to pool so same temp. coffee facilities scattered about were definately a great idea as was welcome drink and whisky tasting!
Fantastic
Just back from a two night break and had a fantastic time. Staff could not have been more helpful. Were there on a romantic break and were given a chilled bottle of champagne on arrival and chocolates in room. Meals were very good and efficient service. Leisure facilities at the hotel are a bonus. Lovely walks in the grounds. Excellent value for money. We will definately be back.
Loved it
We returned yesterday from the Barony castle. We stayed 2 nights and wished we stayed longer. I have just read the last review and am amazed. The dinner was really good. 3 course was £21, 2 course £17. There was a choice of 3 or 4 dishes for each course. It certainly seemed fresh cooked and delicious to us. The staff are all very friendly and helpful especially on reception. We arrived on Sat. afternoon , just as a wedding party were going in..piped in. This made no difference to our welcome in the least. our room was a reasonable size and all freshly decorated. We didn,t use the pool or other facilities but they seemed fine. We enjoyed a pleasant walk round the grounds in the autumn sunshine. We went into peebles the next day to enjoy a long walk along the river. We are definately going back!
Avoid the dinner
easy enough to find with good roadmap directions, reception staff very friendly and helpful, unfortunately dinner was a big let down, starter out of a packet, main course part of which reheated veg other partly inedible, so didnt bother with a sweet, would recommend eating out other than breakfast which was ok if you got there at the right time to get the hot plates when they had food in them!
Perfect!!
Barony Castle is absolutely perfect!! We booked a one night stay at the end of September and wish we could have stayed longer. You really need at least two days to discover everything! The property is fantastic and all members of staff were extremely helpful and polite. The room was lovely as were all other facilities and the standards were excellent. Barony Castle has lovely grounds and would be lovely even in bad weather because it's just such a perfect setting.
Only 5-10 mins drive from Peebles but it's so secluded and well hidden that you feel like you're miles away from anywhere else! Breakfast was excellent and included in the rate which was even better.
Highly recommend staying at Barony Castle as you won't be disappointed. 5 star in every way!!
Hidden Gem
Booked a two night b&b stay as we wanted to visit Edinburgh. Complementary "dram" on arrival.
Coffee stations around the hotel with free tea, coffee and chocolate. More sociable than drinking alone in ones room.
Beautiful building and decor.
Nothing was too much trouble for the staff.
We had room 101. as the receptionist said "Where you put the things you don't want to see again." Hope she did not mean me!!!!
The rooms had excellent facilities and something we have never seen before. When the light is on in the bathroom the mirror heats up and therefore does not steam up when bathing. Great for all "gadget men" out there.
Cannot wait to return.
Would recommend to anyone.
Fantastic Property
A fantastic Hotel with a dedicated staff. We found this place by accident and stayed not one nigh as planned but three and still wanted more.
A bit like Dr. Who with his tardus, the hotel was around 80 all newly refurbished bedrooms, a lovely pool and gym as well as a supert restaurant.
We loved the gardens ansd grounds but was most impressed by the history of the building
10/10 for these guys
