Dunedin - I've arrived

Here I am in Dunedin - wow it is chilly but so beautiful! I love this hotel and have been treated so well by all of the staff here. Can't believe how friendly people are here - and no JAFA jokes yet! Off to bed soon - just had a fabulous meal and getting ready for my big day tomorrow. I am meeting up with a friend who is going to show me all around Dunedin. Only here for two days so going to make the most of it here!!! See you soon!

Road Trip - Episode 1

... 8217;t get the camera working and Dad’s head torch in the right place to capture anymore than three fleeing figures in the dark! Oh we were in good spirits after that though. The penguin mission complete we headed back up the sandbank to our house and just as Dad was leading the way with the light a small figure waddled along the path directly in front of him. This little guy did not seem in the least bit interested in fleeing and far more interested in Dad so ...

P p p pick up a penguin

... in Dunedin. The weather showed no sign of letting up in the morning, rain bouncing off the roof of the van all through the night. Luckily, our morning plans at least were indoor ones - a much-anticipated visit to the Cadburys factory! We'd sampled a few bars of Cadburys since we'd arrived in New Zealand, tempted by the novelty of all the many different varieties that are available - in fact there's a whole 'desserts' range of chocolate filled with things like ...

Little Edinburgh

... it was a saturday so it was closed, but we did get to see the big chocolate fountain and some freebies! I was their purely checking out the potential competition and not for the freebies!! We didnt have much time in Dunedin so the next thing to do in a town you dont have a lot of time in is.... sit in a dark room and hide from the city! Yes we went to the cinema! We're cant be 'travelling' all the time, we need some down time, to chill out!!

Otago Peninsula - wildlife all around

... s bad foot, she could only take photos and limp down slowly. The beach is very remote, and just a few people make their way there, to see seals and penguins in the wild. We made it to the penguin area, but due to restrictions, we had to go into a "hide" to watch them from afar. The hideout is pretty neat - a shack, with slits to view the beach - you can see them, but they cannot see you. We were ...

9.02pm - The Lion Queen

... me should I ever be pulled over for anything more serious than driving in a bit of a rubbish manner, which is all that's ever happened so far, because they'd have me admitting to importing kilos of heroin every week within a minute. Anyway, after some frantic babbling about dealing with Auckland, I realised the piece of paper she was waving at me and calling a contract had a twin nestled in my bag - it in no way, shape or form resembles any contract I have ever ...

What Sea Lions? What Caves?

... the falls are about as small as they come. I went into the local gallery-cafe for a coffee and was talked into whitebait fritters for lunch. They were fine, and indeed were whitebait fritters; just not what I expected! Cathedral Caves turned out to be closed: "Sea to rough to get to caves" [sic]. I visited the estuary of the Tautuka instead. The Purakaunui Falls were next, and as I had practised by visiting a couple of other waterfalls en ...

Two Days in Dunedin

I took the bus from Christchurch to Dunedin on Thursday. I got there in the evening, so there wasn't much to do that day. On Friday I walked around the town for a bit. There's a Cadbury factory, but I ended up just taking pictures from the outside. I didn't really have time for a tour, and they wanted to charge a fee just to look around their chocolate displays and shop in their gift shop. Fortunately, the grocery store across the street sold plenty :) I went on a wildlife ...
