    Team building, take 2

Team building once again, and off to the beach!

A very different team from last time, and the beach was stunningly beautiful and clean - as good as any in either NZ or Oz can offer, with the added bonus of just-the-right-temp water and safe swimming conditions.

The whole event was better organised this time, and we all ate together at every meal. I made sure I sat at a table with mostly local staff, as they know how to get into some of the tricky but delicious ...

    Trekking through the ricefields!

... just for us and a nice vegetable soup. Beer was cheap, so we drank some of that and then headed down to the shore for a swim. The water was warm and not rough. We bought an inflatable raft and dodged floating plastic bags and other unidentified icky waste for awhile then went for a walk along the beach trying to photographically capture the blackness of the sand. Thousands of ...

    Train shenanigans

A travel blog entry by sainty on Apr 18, 2007

Well, thanks to (Paul's - I blame him!) frugalness and refusing to pay a guy 70y commision on a train ticket we got the Hard seat to Guilin because it was the only option left (then on to bus to Yanshou). This turned out to be the most uncomfortable godforsaken journey I think we have ever done. 14 hours of pretty much sitting bolt upright like a marmot. 100's of people seemed to be elbowed in to each compartment and you daren't leave your seat because if you ...
