Slept in and watched TV for the afternoon. The first show we watched was 'Whale Wars'. What a stupid show. It follows a group of activists who pursue Japanese whalers trying to hunt whales for 'research' and honestly you won't come across a bigger bunch of animal lovers if you tried. I wouldn't be surprised if I saw Laura Lynch in the next series boarding a Japanese boat with a stink bomb to deter the whalers. That's what they actually do in this show. ...
... no place to sit and relax in the room, as there is only 1 hard backed wooden chair, no safe for valuables ( did get safe at reception today, they did not have one for us yesterday). No one at hotel speaks English and the language is Portuguese, so even sam's Italian cannot bridge this gap, they are friendly and try to help so cannot complain about this. We have had a beer at 2 different places and consistently (not just tourists) they serve you with ...

The Mercure Hotel is part of the Accor Hotel group. The same chain that own IBIS. The hotel has 23 floors of which our room was on the 7th.
Our room although sparsely decorated would be classed as a mini suite in most parts of the world with a work station and settee together with a kitchenette in the living area and separate bedroom with en suite facilities. All rooms seem to be equipped with a balcony. This hotel is ingeniously designed. ...
... in Sao Paulo. Just down the hill from the main business district, Jardins is a seemingly endless set of leafy streets, with very grand apartment blocks and even grander mansions. Interspersed within these are trendy shops and restaurants to serve the residents of this bankers ghetto. I, of course, felt decidedly out of place. Off to Foz do Iguaçu to see the world´s largest waterfalls overnight on the bus. Pictures when I get to Paraguay. ...
