... there was some unidentifiable weird stuff as well. A plate of what tasted like deep fried liquorice and a lovely big bowl of squidgy green stuff but hey, we had chips! We ate it quickly before the nightly invasion of thousands of flies turned up to spoil it. The weird stuff got shovelled into an empty Pringles tube and stashed at the very bottom of the bin.
We were awoken at 5am by an Islamic call to prayer which was being belted out across town at Kumai. It ...

A closed airport coffee shop provided some seating, and we joined a few other weary travellers in snoozing until daylight arrived.

The first bus to Gambir station left at 5am, and arrived in the bus station just as the heavens opened, so we dashed on to ...

... buildings and people riding round on different brightly coloured bicycles. The hardest part was lying to the kids when they asked us what I liked anout Jakarta. There are three museums in the square and one on the way in. The one we pass initially is the Indonesian bank museum. The reviews said "it's not boring". Ha...sounds like a trap. There's also the Fatahilah museum which is converted from the old town hall, and is very much closed today for some fabulous sense ...
