We arrived in Moscow early afternoon and in order to save some cash we opted to get ourselves from the airport to our hotel. The initial bit to get from the airport to the main train station was pre-booked, which was pretty simple and then the fun started. Loaded up with all of our bags we had to try and find the number 6 bus stop as this seemed …

Carmen's story:

We had seen amazing natural beauty on the Transiberian so far, but Moscow was the first major city we had been to since Beijing and it was stunning! Unfortunately I was pretty sick when we got to Moscow and I spent most of the first day in bed. Pete had a nice meal out with the group that night, while I had an early one. We …

It had snowed overnight (google weather forecast was right!) and we were due to go on a walking tour of the city this morning. Our guide, Tatiana, was very good and took us across the river and to parts of the city that we had yet to explore, which was good. We had better views of the kremlin from the bridge crossing the frozen river and over onto …

Last night we went to the opera at the New Bolshi theatre. The old one is still being refurbished, but the new one is still pretty impressive. It was Tzaikovsky's Eugene Oneigin. Not one of his better known operas, but pretty good. It was in Russian with english subtitles! No, really, there were 2 TV screens either side of the stage with the …

So we decided we had to start with Red squar, about a 15 min walk from the hotel. It looked nice and sunny outside from the hotel window, how deceptive …

We really liked the Melody hotel. We were there on a tour so we can't comment about value for money, but it was a very clean comfortable hotel with a fantastic buffet breakfast. It was also close to the Metro and within walking distance of Red Square and the Cathedral of Christ the Saviour, making it a good base to explore.
