Brrrrrrrrr
So we have safely arrived into Moscow, airport open despite snow and ice everywhere, could see our breath as we exited over the wallkway from the airplane, knew I didn't have enough layers on, got through immigration with no hassle and thought about how we would get to the hotel. So we decided to try the metro, though we never quite got there ( …
Sightseeing
We set off today to see some sights. We have today and tomorrow free to sightsee ourselves, then a city tour on Thursday before heading off on the trans-Mongolian train overnight to our next stop. So we decided we had to start with Red squar, about a 15 min walk from the hotel. It looked nice and sunny outside from the hotel window, how deceptive …
The kremlin
Last night we went to the opera at the New Bolshi theatre. The old one is still being refurbished, but the new one is still pretty impressive. It was Tzaikovsky's Eugene Oneigin. We had better views of the kremlin from the bridge crossing the frozen river and over onto …

Comfortable, pleasant staff, secure - better than expected.

We really liked the Melody hotel. We were there on a tour so we can't comment about value for money, but it was a very clean comfortable hotel with a fantastic buffet breakfast. It was also close to the Metro and within walking distance of Red Square and the Cathedral of Christ the Saviour, making it a good base to explore.
