Off to Kunming to get our visa for Vietnam

As Lijiang is too busy and not that huge, we are now heading after one day in town to Kunming, the biggest city and capital of Yunnan provence to acquire our visa for Vietnam. Let's hope that we can get the visa within one day so we do not have to spend much time in this (according to our travel book and other traveler's word of mouth) not really interesting city :-).

Tiger Leaping Gorge

... and ended with a two and a half hour descent and re-climb of a very steep section to the Tiger Leaping Stone, making us sweat like in a sauna again. The views down at the Tiger Leap Rock were amazing though too. However, we had to pay some Yuan extra for the paths there, as those were maintained by local families and as a result quite adventurous (see pictures to get an idea) :-).

All in all the Tiger Leaping Gorge was a spectacular site and great outdoor ...

... am Sifang Platz. Von hier ausgehend verzweigen die Hauptstraßen wie Äste in immer kleinere Abzweigungen, die oft ganz unverhofft bereits bekannte Ecken und Straßenzüge miteinander verbinden, oder doch zu Sackgassen werden. Vom "Lion Hill" und dem darauf befindlichen Turm am Rande der Altstadt überlickt ein wunderschönes Meer aus grauen Ziegeldächern. 1995 wurden vieler dieser Häuser bei einem heftigen Erdbeben zerstört, inzwischen aber ...

There are lots of complaints about places being too "touristy". Touristy doesn't have to be tacky. I don’t mind touristy. We go as tourists after all! And use the tourist facilities and services!

Lijiang, a UNESCO heritage listed ancient town certainly is touristy. It is also beautiful. It’s an absolute warren of tiny alleys paved with bumpy cobblestones, little streams, bridges, tiny shops and eateries, locals ...
