Historical Traveler Reviews of Melia Flora Park Hammamet

Lovely holiday

from SAmiloutownsend
Just returned from a fab two weeks at the Flora Park. The rooms are spacious and nicely furnished. We were on the Half board basis, and thought the food was excellent at both breakfast and dinner, we didn't eat at the hotel at lunchtime, preferring to eat at a local restaurant just around the corner called La Grotta (they sold pizzas, sandwiches, paninis, pancakes etc). You are not allowed to bring food into the hotel from outside (although it was extremely easy to smuggle in using a backpack! what they don't see can't hurt them! The drinks are quite expensive in the resort - 5.5 dinars for a beer - about £2.50, and the wine was 12.8 dinars, which is about £5.50 per bottle. The bar staff are mostly friendly - Chokri is such good fun, but watch Zaid as he has a tendency to short change. Do not change your money in the hotel, despite the fact that the rate is supposed to be the same as the bank - it is not, we got about 11 dinars per £100 more by going to the bank - which is about £5 - it adds up if you are spending a lot! Do go on the local (bendy)bus to Hammamet and Nabeul - just 0.465 dinars to Hammamet and 1.2 to Nabeul - avoid Nabeul on a Friday, when the market is held. The bus stops just along the road form the hotel. Went on a couple of trips organised by the tour company (woudl not normally do this, but could not find anything else to go on locally), firstly the Berber Night -do not bother, it is the same entertainment as in the hotel, the food is sparce and just sniffing the free red wine can give you a migraine - we got a free trip to the reps cabaret night after complaning about it. The reps night was good, we had free time in Port El Kantauoi, and then had a lvely meal at a restaurant in the marina there. The cabaret itself was not really to our taste, but we could have spent the two hours we were there wandering about in Sousse. We also went on the two day desert safari - a wonderful trip, but a lot of time sat on the coach, we also got served some awful food at lunchtime on the second day, which I refused to eat, some sort of chicken or turkey swimming on a bed of olive oil and veggies! YUK! All in all though a wonderful holiday, we met some wonderful fellow Brits, who also had a great time over in Tunisia.

Our most memorable holiday yet...

from Lisa_DiIulio
On arrival at the hotel I was astounded by the beauty and cleanliness of the ground and the surroundings however, there was no porters available to help us with our luggage.

The rooms were very spacious, very clean fitted with air con, t.v, shower, bath etc

One word of warning would be to avoid using the payphone in the hotel as I phoned my mam back in wales for 3mins and was charged 20 dinars (approx 10 pound) by reception however the public payphones around the corner were very cheep to use.

The food in the hotel was out of this world we couldn't complain once about it - fresh, you had variety and it was always lovely and hot.

The pool area was kept very clean and was an asthetically pleasing area to sit in. In the medina you have to understand that the tunsians aren't being aggressive you just have to keep strong minded and DONT LET THEM TALK YOU INTO BUYING ANYTHING! because believe me your case will be about 100kilos going home.

One last thing to mention would be the bar staff..... i told cheroki and handi that i would mention them in my review as without them this holiday wouldn't have been as fantastic as it was and if anyone does decide to go please say hi to them both and "I see you Jimmy" you'll understand why if you ever go.

Holiday overall was an experience

Hi thier just returned from flora park, me and my mate went and i dont advise young girls by themselves to visit tunisia, unless you are used to being hasseled and i mean hasseled we didnt feel safe to leave the hotel at night and thier was not much entertainment except for a game of scrabble! !so early nights for us he he, food was really nice but dont expect burger and chips its more traditional like couscous which is really nice.thier are loads of trips and we did a few,the waiters are really friendly, just be carefull when changing money they tend to give you less so check before you sign! but overall the holiday was good, just keep your witts about you !!! 26/03/06 x x

Not much bad but...

We did enjoy our holiday at the Flora Park but I would like to make others aware when changing money. We don't know whether it was coincidental or not but the first time we exchanged money at reception, we were short changed by 32 dinars (£15 app) the first time and the second time £5 app, so do check you get however much is on the receipt. Otherwise a good holiday, we were a bit miffed about not being allowed food or drink into the hotel but there are ways and means!! Bar staff have to be commended - great guys! They work hard and deserve their tips. Expensive for drinks though everywhere you go.

Great time had by all

We booked a last minute trip to tunisia on allocation on arrival and were delighted to stay at the flora park. it was friendly clean and great fun. the bar staff were really funny in particular Ziad and Chockree they went out of their way to make you feel welcome. The entertainment was basic but we met really nice holiday makers and enjoyed the criac with them. I can understand the people being upset about not being allowed to bring water into the hotel but it was available from the bar at a cheap price so stop moaning you are on holiday!!

The food was lovely fresh at every sitting and not left out all day and there was plenty of variety. Our experience at the medina was a good laugh. the rep advised us to take a good sense of humour with us and we were polite and friendly with the locals. If you are rude to them what do you expect. Tourism is their major income so of course they want you to buy. my advice stick to a price you would be happy to pay and dont budge. they will be running down the street after you if you wont pay their price. It is a good laugh play the game with them!!

One more tip. if you are having a winter break the weather is warm but not red hot (didnt really know what to expect its my first winter break).Take plenty of thin layers of clothing you can easily take it off if you get warm. In summary a fab holiday we really enjoyed and would definately return for longer when it is a bit warmer.

Good quality, bad service

from A TripAdvisor Member
2 friends and I stayed at the Melia Flora for Feb. half term break. The hotel was of top quality (clean rooms, great food, well kept grounds, etc)... however I feel I should make a note in regards to the sometimes appalling service. There were a number of occasions when we requested items for our room (extra pillows, towels, glasses) and either were told we could not have them or they just wouldn't bring them. Also, beware: we were harrassed at the front gate one night because we were bringing in bottles of drinking water (since you are told not to drink from the taps). While the hotel is very clear about thier policy to bringing in outside food or drink, we felt that being stopped for bottles of water was rediculous. Also, we were asked to pay for a safety deposit key that didn't work and one guy at the desk told us that it cost 10 dinar (£5) to play tennis for one hour (this of course was not true). As you can imagine, this was all a little bit frustrating. If you stay at this hotel (and are not bothered by they sketchy front desk service) then may I suggest you take as many trips out as you can. In warmer weather it might be nice to go to the beach and sun bathe, but in February it is best to go on daily adventures (at extra cost to you) to see more of the Tunisian culture. One final warning: beware of the markets in the Medina... aggressive, aggressive, in your face aggression!

Brilliant place to stay for the Family

from A TripAdvisor Member
This is a great place to stay if you've got kids between the ages of 12-18. The Entertainments team keeps them occupied during the day with Water Polo, Football, Table Tennis and Darts and put on some kind of entertainment during most nights. They have aqua aerobics and Yoga during the day for the adults and a pool table for all to enjoy. The hotels staff are excellent and the standard of the hotel is great. It is situated in an area with many Restaurants, Shops and a wonderful Medina. Only problem is that it could get boring for Young Adults!

Love Tunisia

from sloppy1uk
Great hotel, very clean.Bedrooms are spacious and comfortable.

Food was lovely.

Staff were great

The only thing that lacked was the entertainment.

Fantastic Tunisia but quite hotel

from A TripAdvisor Member
Great & friendly hotel, but lacked on the entertainment side. The hotel is centrally located in the Yasmin area of Hammamet, which is packed with restaurants, other larger hotels, souks & a 'modern' medina. Also just a 5 minute walk to the lovely marine.

The rooms are a good size with the usual facilities & housekeeping standards are good. The food was tasty but could have had a bit more choice.

Hotel good apart from one aspect!

from A TripAdvisor Member
The hotel was great for the price and, although quiet and should not be recommended for anyone that wanted more than a relaxing time, the animation team put on various activities during the day e.g. water polo, aquaerobics, yoga.

The security staff were extremely brusque and did not all any drinks or snacks to be brought into the hotel. Unfortunately one man did not speak English and made us feel like criminals!
