Good, clean, pleasant hotel with a nice restaurant. Ideal for an overnight stay close to the airport with free shuttle bus.

This is a very nice hotel located in the central city area of Melbourne. It has been recently renovated and the rooms updated. The staff is very friendly and helpful and they attempt to accommodate your needs. As Platinum members we were give two nice amenities on arrival and granted access to the executive lounge while we waited for our room to be prepared. The executive lounge had a great variety of food, however the lunge is extremely small and tight as you attempt to msnuaround the food and drinks.

This Marriott was under construction the enite time I was there. the front doors and taxi stands were typically blocked, there was noise and dust. But my biggest problem with the hotel is their deposit arrangements. i booked this in August but in Sept the dates for my meetings slipped by 1 week. After contacting the hotel I was told that I would forfiet my $400AU if I delayed the stay. The hotel hardly had anyone in it when I was there. They simply are arrogant inflexible and uncaring I will not stay with them again.

A great stay in Melbourne CBD

This was a one night stay in Easter and I still managed to get the room for $200AUD, what I could have paid for a much lower quality place if I hadn't researched. I love the Marriott for short cultural or business stays, it's a very short walk to most of the city and Chinatown but further uptown where it's quiet enough to not be hassled. The rooms are a good size and the beds are incredibly comfortable. On this occasion I also got a free upgrade to the executive room, much appreciated! The staff are always happy to help look after your things when leaving, checkout is at a generous 11am and the staff were able to check us in at lunchtime. Recommended.

Historical Traveler Reviews Melbourne Marriott Hotel

      Large spacious modern suites.

We had no choice in the matter staying here as all hotels in Melbourne were booked out due to some conference happening for a week.We had with us some US guests and it was so embrassing trying to find somrwhere we could be accomadated. Finally the Mariott had two rooms available so we quickly paid by Amex to secure them.

We were surprised to find that our room was extremely spacious with a king size bed and a lovely large bathroom. The staff were very helpful and efficient and upon arriving we were given a glass of juice.

It was a little out of town, but good for the legs..

situated near the theatre and Chinatown with some excellent restuarants a few blocks away.

Pros: Large modern suite rooms with modern bathroom with all the facilities one expects from this sort of establishment.Staff very friendly and helpful.Located closed to the theatre and Chinatown. We cannot give advice on the breakfast as we had very bad news that evening and had to catch first plane home in the morning.

Con:A bit of a walk into the city.

Based on our stay at this hotel it has got everything right. From the time we arrived the service was perfect. The doorman, the porter, check in (and check out) staff and the bar and restaurant staff were all excellent. The bed was the most comfortable we have ever had in a hotel. It is in an excellent location being right in the city and you can choose from a multitude of very good restaurants. If you are a chocaholic you must go to the QV shopping area and try the cafe known as "Chocolates by the Bald Man - Max Brenner".

Loved the Marriott staff, the hotel, but the parking -- lack of -- was terrible. The Marriott hotel chain has never disappointed me ... best trained staff, anywhere you go, all over the world. The rooms are always well appointed. (Why do they provide toasters in the room?)

This hotel is in a great location, walking distance to most shopping, many sites, i.e., museums, churches, Chinatown, Greek area, etc. However, we arrived with a rental car at about 2:00 pm, and there was no hotel parking available. The front desk didn't know, quoting me $25/day/Australia. When I went to the concierge/bell desk, they explained that the front desk doesn't always know what's going on in the parking garage. They were "filled up" and didn't expect any availability. Suggested that I park around the block for $12/day.

I chose to just return the rental car a 1/2 day early, rather than put up with the hassle.

      Pleasantly Surprised

We reserved our room at priceline for around $125/night U.S. We arrived early for check-in and a room was ready. They even offered us a glass of juice at check-in, which was nice. We were given an adaptor for the electrical outlet, so I could use my U.S. voltage curling iron. The bed was comfortable and the room was clean and updated. It was a 3 block walk to public transportation (the trams). The concierges, especially Louis, were very helpful. He gave us tour tickets for a Gray Line tour which included a kangaroo farm, a koala sanctuary, and the penguins at Phillip Island. We only paid Gray Line an $18 admission for this $120 9 hour tour. Maltitudes is a great restaurant for breakfast or lunch and is a one block walk.

      Fantastic hotel & staff!

I stayed for just one night but wish it was longer. A real relief after a lot of travelling. Staff was helpful & responsive. The concierge offered advice for a tour I decided to take & it turned out to be invaluable advice. Would love to stay again in the future.

Nice stay after a busy weeks work!

The family and I stayed here after I had worked the previous week at the Avalon Airshow.

Lets get the ugly out of the way first.

On checking out we were confronted with a telephone bill for $170Aus!!! This was for 2 short calls to NZ lasting no longer than 20 minutes. To say we were shocked was an understatement!!!

No where in any of the literature in the room was there any indication of how much phone calls would cost us!

To the credit of the hotel though they did deduct 25% off there on the spot. We will be writing a letter to the Marriott complaining about the cost of this phone call though.

      The Good.

Room...bloody great mate :) Nice big walk in waldrobe, huge clean bathroom and massive bedroom so absolutely no complaints there.

Staff were also very nice and helpful and the restaurant was absolutely wonderful!

When we arrived on the Sunday night there was a greek festival going on down the road the hotel was quite close to a lot of cultural events in the city.

Over all a very nice hotel to stay in only marred by the huge phone bill we got on checking out.

      Great service at the Marriott

Recently stayed 4 nights in a one bedroom suite at the Mariott. Large and spacious with seperate lounge and bedroom.

Loved the huge walk in wardrobe. The suite was tastefully decorated in neutral tones. Room was beautifully quite despite being located near the lifts.

Drank in the downstairs bar and found the prices more than reasonable.

Great location near China town and city parks.

Service was very accomodating and professional.

We stayed 3 nights in the Melbourne Marriott for our honeymoon in Feb 2005.

After some bad experiences in the Marriott in Sydney we were surprised that this Marriott was much better than we expected. Our room was big and comfortable, everything was in good shape. The hotel pool and spa is also in good condition and open 24 hours (just the pool, not the spa).

The in-room internet service is also ok.

The service was also quite good and friendly.

      Two minor bad points:

      (1) For the good quality room the bathroom was very small and old fashioned. They really need some renovation here!

      (2) I tried to use the online services of the hotel using the tv (like Bill Review etc.). In all our stay I tried to use this service around 20 times, it worked exactly one time. All other times we get some Internet Explorer error message.

The same problem at checkout at 5am in the morning. The reception could not check our bill because of computer problems, maybe the same problem like when showing our online bill. Not really professional overall, but minor problem to me.

Overall we mostly enjoyed our stay in this hotel and can highly recommend it.

      Efficient and convenient

Stayed for three nights. Pleasant rooms, good location, efficient staff, no problems. Nonsmoking rooms are available. Those rooms with one bed have Australian queen size (=UK king size) bed. Nonsmoking rooms are available. Room service was significantly better than usual for chain hotels. Car park in the hotel is AUS$20 per day, add AUS$5 for valet service. Only faults were the spartan executive lounge and the lack of smiles there (perhaps due to shyness rather than to unfriendliness); but as we had received a complimentary upgrade to the executive floor, it would be churlish to complain about that.

The place to stay in Melbourne

This is an excellent hotel. We stayed early January and this is one of this nicest hotels I've ever stayed in. We arrived very early 8am and they took our bags and told us to come back at 10am as they'd been full the previous night. The room is very spacious with a comfortable king bed and seperate sofa, a small hall way keeps the wardrobe and leads to the bathroom. We asked for a street view and got a lovely view from the 9th floor. The hotel is right in the middle of the business, theatre and tourist areas. All the staff were very friendly and helpful. I would really recommend this hotel if you need to stay in Melbourne.

Well, I've got to hand it to Virgin Australia for its ability to employ snooty little upstarts, so full of their own self importance they lack any level of common sense.

Here's how my departure panned out - checked in at Hobart International Airport (very funny I know), with my luggage checked all the way through to Miami. Was only given a …
