... you meet more people than travelling with a friend. I much prefer travelling on my own for this purpose. If I want to be left alone, I can do that and if I want to socialise, I can do that too. I really enjoyed, however, travelling with my best frient in Indonesia because we are exactly the same in our likes and dislikes so it makes for a perfect holiday.

... Beginning our incline in Erstfield we negotiated numerous twists, turns and funnels with ease. Seats in first class again very luxurious; some seats even swivel 360 degrees but we had no need as our views were incredible. Very warm and sunny; Final destination complete 5.5 hours later. My best day ...

I know that the uphill climb is getting close, including my big goal: to cross the Splugenpass from Italy to Switzerland on foot. I know it was just planted here for the warm months, but seeing a banana tree in someone's yard just feels really unappropriate. C'mon folks, this is the ...

Day 274 3 hrs, 3 kms In the morning I go to check out the waterfall again. Not a very big waterfall--but a nice way to start out my morning. On the rocky shore of the river a group of young folks are camping out. Nice to see a few other folks enjoying the pleasure of sleeping out of doors (although admittedly my real motive is stinginess--not a love for sleeping under the stars!) It sound like there's a much higher waterfall up a bend in a slit like gorge--but I ...

Day 273 5 hrs, 10.4 kms Day Totals: 16 hrs, 37.4 kms I take a little detour to snag one more town today. As I wander through this frazione of Samolaco, a husky older gentleman greets me from outside his barn, my third interesting encounter of the day. He tells me about his life... growing up in the mountains here, spending much of his life out in the plains working, and now coming back to his home village. I guess that's the reality of these ...
